Clean Adventures Philosophy
Clean Adventures has a visionary approach to provide the best treatment possible in a safe environment utilizing the 12 steps, a full time clinical staff and an extensive Adventure based program to develop a life of recovery.
Areas of Specialization
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a highly specific, research-validated form of therapy that can help people overcome traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. With EMDR, a trained practitioner uses bilateral stimulation, eye movement and touch to stimulate parts of the brain as a patient recounts certain experiences and memories as a way to more thoroughly process uncomfortable, painful feelings.
This term describes one-on-one therapy, in which a patient and trained counselor, social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist meets privately with a patient to discuss challenges related to lifestyle, work, family and romantic relationships that may have contributed to the development of an addiction.

ABOUT CLEAN ADVENTURES
Located about one mile above sea level and 100 miles from Phoenix in the Arizona city of Prescott, Clean Adventures is a men’s residential drug and alcohol rehab program with a very specific approach. Clients who struggle with addiction and who are 18 years or older participate in structured supportive housing, intensive cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and outdoor adventure excursions. According to the facility’s website, the “adventure-based” treatment is designed both to challenge clients and to provide opportunities for them to learn to enjoy sober lives. Treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression, is available; however, no detox services are provided on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The six-month program builds on 12-step meetings and evidence-based modalities including, in addition to CBT, rational emotive behavioral therapy and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, a form of trauma therapy. Clients meet individually with a psychiatrist once a week and, according to the facility’s Facebook page, participate in about 10 hours of group processing sessions. Random alcohol and drug screenings are also conducted weekly. Clean Adventures also provides training and practice in life skills, covering vocational preparation, budgeting, and communication.
Experiential and recreational therapies play a key role. Six off-site, multi-day trips offered per year include activities such as white water rafting, snowboarding, and canyoneering. While clients are in treatment in Prescott, local activities include rock climbing and hiking.
Clean Adventures encourages loved ones to be involved in the recovery process through a weekend family program that prioritizes networking, experiential therapy, communication, and family sculpting.
According to information provided to Rehabs.com by the facility, Clean Adventures maintains a staff-to-client ratio of 2:1. Clinical treatment staff members hold master’s level degrees, and several - including alumni of the program - are in recovery themselves.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The program has space for 27 residential clients, who stay in comfortably furnished homes. They are assigned chores and work with peers to maintain their living environment.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of 47 Facebook reviews, which may be vetted by facility staff, 87 percent gave ratings of five out of five stars. One alum, who rated the program three stars, reported that staff training was uneven.
In a representative review, alum Will cited “so many great people” at Clean Adventures and wrote: “Helped me work towards a better life. Wasn’t easy but so worth it and they produce great results.” Likewise, two Google reviews by alumni represented the program as life-saving and one alum wrote that they “learned how to live.” Another, more critical reviewer, noted that the treatment was somewhat helpful, but provided insufficient support for detoxing.
