Set 30 miles southeast of Rochester in upstate New York, Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic is a 262-bed community hospital. Alongside an array of medical services, the center houses a behavioral health program that provides inpatient and outpatient care for individuals struggling with mental-health disorders, chemical dependency, and dual diagnosis. The hospital is operated by Rochester Regional Health, a system of five hospitals founded in 2014.

Clients are often referred to the hospital for inpatient programming by outpatient treatment providers. In order to determine the appropriate level of care, all clients undergo a comprehensive assessment approved by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). Adults cleared for residential must agree to stay for 28 days.

Clifton Springs aims to help individuals struggling with addiction reach a greater degree of self-awareness, which can help them make the profound changes needed for recovery. The facility’s treatment approach uses evidence-based practices including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), the latter of which is use at 51.4 percent of New York State facilities. The facility also utilizes the Stages of Change model and motivational interviewing (MI). Clients receive group, individual, and family counseling, along with medication management if needed.

According to the facility's website, clients participate in 12-step meetings both on- and off-site, and have access to psychiatric consultation as well as grief therapy and other supportive services.

The treatment team includes psychiatrists specialized in addiction, credentialed substance misuse professionals, physicians, nurses, and mental health therapists. The hospital also employs social workers, nutritionists, vocational counselors, and recreational therapists for the chemical dependency program. The five individuals polled by to date on the center's staff were impressed:

Staff Experience and Training: 5/5

The inpatient program takes place in shared rooms on a 30-bed unit, making it slightly larger than the state average of 26 beds per hospital inpatient center. The campus is tobacco-free, and the hospital provides smoking-cessation resources. The five individuals polled by to date on the center's amenities indicated that it was generally clean, with solid leisure options:

Cleanliness: 3.8/5
Exercise and Leisure: 3.8/5

The single alum polled by to date gave very negative feedback, criticizing the rooms, showers, level of programming provided, and staff, in particular noting the some staff were very strict. "The counseling team is omg I don't even know where to start....let's just say I colored more than anything there," Jenifer wrote. The same alum noted that she was asked to leave the program.

In contrast, the inpatient addiction program has mostly positive feedback on secondary sites at the time of this writing, with a four-star average rating based on four reviews left on CiteHealth.[1] Two reviewers complained about unkind staff, but three of the four reviewers noted that the center had been very helpful for them. "I just celebrated 3 months sober thanks to their program xx," one anonymous reviewer wrote. "This program helped me change my thoughts and behaviors," another added.

The hospital, as a whole, also has mostly positive feedback on secondary sites, with average ratings of 4.1 out of five stars based on 92 reviews on Facebook (where the facility can manage its own page) and 4.2 stars based on six reviews on Google, plus a three-star rating and a two-star rating on Yelp.[2] [3] [4]

The negative reviews repeatedly cite unpleasant interactions with individual staff members and long wait times. However, many reviewers also wrote that they had much better experiences here than in other local hospitals. "I'm a big fan of your Hospital, The closeness and kindness of just about every staff member is kind and courteous, A feeling that you don't get from Larger Hospitals," Steve wrote in one such comment on Facebook.

Of the six reviews submitted to to date, four were positive and two negative. Reviewers repeatedly complained that care was not sufficiently long-term. Parent Tammy complained of a lack of aftercare, while sister Bonnie complained that her sister had checked herself out after 28 days and relapsed immediately. One anonymous reviewer added: "Time is not enough but ready to let go to early. They need longer days with counsling."

However, the five individuals polled on the facility's offerings in a variety of metrics gave mostly positive feedback. Among the positive comments, one reviewer praised the center's staff, and another wrote simply: "It worked. It is effective."

Would Recommend: 4.8/5
Counseling Options: 4.4/5
Family Participation: 3.8/5

The facility accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance plans (accepted at 45.4 percent, 87.5 percent, and 79.1 percent of New York–based facilities, respectively). No one is denied care due to an inability to pay, and the accessibility of treatment is secured by financial aid and a sliding fee scale. The five individuals polled by to date on the center's affordability moderately approved.

Affordability: 3.4/5

This rehab is the WORST...I WOULD NOT SEND MY DOG THERE! The rooms are disgusting, peeling paint...The showers are hideous. The counseling team is omg I don\'t even know where to start....let\'s just say I colored more than anything there. It\'s like freaking jail and I\'ve never been to jail. You can not have ANY CINTACT WITH THE OPPOSITE SEX OR YOU ARE PUT ON LOCK DOWN! There is this one staff member that we called the sheriff because she was so mean. There was actually a lot of them. Then the Dr.\'s haha what a joke...I got kicked out with one week to finish the program for supposedly \"bullying\" another female.

They were willing to help but, my sister sign her self out if love one is in there they should have NO contact with the outside! And for more than 28 days for them to sign out. After my sister 28 days were up , she sign her self out and with in less hour she was drinking. All that short time was wasted.

My son was sent home with a list of AA meetings and a phone number to call and set up appointment for outpatient. When you are 23 years old I believe you should have these things set in place before you leave and Not discharged on weekend, unless they are .
