ABOUT CLUB SODA

Club Soda is a sober living facility for men and women located in the neighborhood of Twelve Points in northern Terre Haute, Ind. The facility also partners with local facilities to provide residents with supportive addiction treatment programming.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The program is strongly rooted in the 12-Steps, though Rehabs.com reviewers also noted that treatment isn't strongly faith-based. The goal of programming is to help clients become independent and self-sufficient, so that they can return to society as gainfully employed, productive members of the community while living in clean, safe housing. A partnership with local addiction treatment facilities allows Club Soda to provide one-on-one counseling for residents, as well as various forms of 12-step meetings on-site.

In order to be admitted to Club Soda, new clients must commit to a minimum six-month stay — positioning the center among the 8.5 percent of facilities in Indiana that offer residential treatment lasting longer than 30 days. Programming is broken up into a few phases: for the first 60 days, clients have no free time. They're only allowed to attend work, 12-step meetings, and any necessary appointments. After 60 days, clients gain access to free time and 24-hour passes to visit people off-site. Throughout treatment, clients must attend one on-site 12-step meeting per day, two meetings in the community per week, and house meetings.

All residents are required accept full responsibility for their behavior, to comply with the center's rules, and to participate in regular drug screening (provided at 84.3 percent of Indiana-based facilities). The center also has strict protocols about rule-breaking, which is treated with first a verbal warning, then a written one, and finally a further written warning, which also opens the possibility of their being removed from the program.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

At least some staff members are in recovery themselves. The three individuals surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility two, three, and five out of five stars for its staff’s level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

A 2010 article in the Tribune Star indicated that Club Soda had 18 beds when it opened — though the center then planned to expand to accept women, which it has subsequently done. If its capacity doubled with the expansion, the center would accommodate just over the state average of 32 individuals per residential facility. The three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center's cleanliness and maintenance gave it a four-star rating and two five-star ratings.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Both former clients polled by Rehabs.com as of this writing indicated that they would strongly recommend treatment at Club Soda, and both gave the facility four or five stars for its family participation, counseling options, and the strength of its 12-step program.

The areas with the lowest ratings were the facility’s holistic options (with one and three stars) and ability to treat co-occurring disorders (with two and four stars). In their written commentary, alumni praised the center's fellowship and program director. There was no overlap between the reviewers' complaints: one alum felt there was a lack of personal care and the other disliked some of their fellow residents. "Good fellowship provide transportation to and from work and three meetings a day. Some of the residents are negative. The program director is very involved and has lots of knowledge about recovery," was alum Jimmy's appraisal.

Third-party reviews sites yield mostly positive reviews at the time of this writing: Club Soda has average ratings of 4.2 out of five stars based on six reviews on Google and four out of five stars based on 29 opinions on Facebook, where the facility may manage its own page.[1] [2] The reviewers repeatedly stressed that Club Soda offered good fellowship and good people, and that its treatment is effective — but that residents have to want to get better in order for the program to work. "Club soda is a good program if you really want to stay clean and sober.I love it and we have great people here," Brandy wrote in a representative comment on Facebook.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single review submitted to Rehabs.com by a loved one was lukewarm. Though the reviewer indicated that they’d recommend the facility and gave it five stars for its family program, they gave lower ratings of two stars for its ability to treat co-occurring disorders and the overall effectiveness of its treatment, and just one star for its counseling options. "Too loose in letting patients come & go. This type of facility is only good if the patient really wants the help but I guess that is the case in all facilities," they wrote.

FINANCING

Residents are required to pay rent, though the amount is not currently specified. The three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility two four-star ratings and a five-star rating for its affordability.

Patients worked for stay & had 12 step program & had drug testing & breathalyzer. Too loose in letting patients come & go. This type of facility is only good if the patient really wants the help but I guess that is the case in all facilities.
