Areas of Specialization

  • Individual Therapy
This term describes one-on-one therapy, in which a patient and trained counselor, social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist meets privately with a patient to discuss challenges related to lifestyle, work, family and romantic relationships that may have contributed to the development of an addiction.

  • Client & Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.

Located in a wooded area on Long Island, 50 miles from Midtown Manhattan, CMR Recovery Residence offers residential treatment for adults struggling with addiction. The program was founded 74 years ago by early members of the original 12-step program, under the guidance of Bill W.

The program is offered in 30-day units, with a minimum stay of 30 days. The length of stay is tailored to suit the individual client’s needs, though CMR advises 90 days.

As its origin story suggests, CMR Recovery Residence offers a program that’s heavily based on the 12-Steps, with dedicated meetings for opiate addiction and alcoholism. As well as 12-step meetings, residents take place in daily individual and group counseling sessions.

Graduates of the program may access on-site aftercare meetings seven days a week.

The center is staffed 24/7 by “dedicated men and women in recovery,” according to the facility’s website. Each of the three individuals polled by to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it four out of five stars.

Private and semi-private rooms are available, all of which have cable TV. Photos published on the facility’s website show simple, traditionally decorated bedrooms. A complete laundry service is provided, and there’s a smoking lounge with a filtration system. Extracurricular activities include supervised shopping trips and outings. Each of three individuals polled to date on CMR’s accommodations and meals gave four or five stars in both categories. In the category of cleanliness, reviewers provided slightly lower ratings of three, three, and four stars.

CMR Recovery Residence provides free transportation to and from major airports and mass transit hubs.

The five reviews submitted to to date were unanimously positive, albeit with some caveats. The three reviewers polled on the facility’s offerings in a variety of treatment metrics each gave CMR four out of five stars for the overall effectiveness of its treatment, the strength of its 12-step program, and its treatment for co-occurring disorders. Reviewers repeatedly praised the staff. “The Staff: 10/10 The apotheosis of a wise, friendly unit of experts,” Brian wrote in a representative review. Brian also praised the physical facility, writing: “With acres of land, one can parambulate the landscape, interact with nature, shoot hoops, or sit in the sun and read a book from CMR's massive library.”

There were also some areas of repeated criticism, however. The three clients polled on CMR’s holistic offerings gave them low ratings of one, two, and three stars, and more than one client was disappointed that the facility doesn’t accept insurance.

At the time of this writing, secondary review sites also yielded almost unanimously positive feedback. On Facebook (where the center manages its own page), CMR Recovery Residence had an average rating of four out of five stars, based on 11 reviews; on Yelp, it had three five-star reviews; and on, it had two five-star reviews and a two-star review.[1] [2] [3] Several reviewers on these sites said their stay at CMR Recovery Residence had saved their lives: “It truly is an amazing place. When you're recovering there, you're not a number, you're family. I can not say enough about the staff. They saved my life and I am forever grateful!,” Sue wrote in a representative review on Facebook. One alum, however, did note on that in their view treatment is geared mainly toward alcoholics, and less helpful for those struggling with drug addiction.

This center is private pay only; insurance is not accepted. Treatment costs $6,000/month, and the center aims to provide affordable care for those who cannot afford typical private, insurance-funded programs. The three individuals polled on the facility’s affordability to date gave it one one-star rating and two four-star ratings.

This place is great for keeping my baby's father clean, but the rules are ridiculous and quite frankly , insulting! I have been sober for over 90 days now. I live in a sober house and I'm not allowed to visit my boyfriend because of that factor . The director of the program is a total piece of work . I called to ask if I could visit my boyfriend while explaining that I was pregnant and he hung up on me.

CMR Recovery Residence is the most viable, effective, and resplendent way to cure one's affliction. As a recent resident, I can deliver evidence. I struggled with a drug quandary, not alcohol. CMR will abrogate your afflictions and install the tools, mind-set, and outlook necessary for what you will learn to be an exciting, healthy return back to action in society. With acres of land, one can parambulate the landscape, interact with nature, shoot hoops, or sit in the sun and read a book from CMR's massive library. Here's a snap shot of what you can expect: The Staff: 10/10 The apotheosis of a wise, friendly unit of experts. The Food: 9/10 You can control your daily diet since you are taken by bus to the super market. The Rooms: 10/10 T.V. / A.C. equipped, laundry service, privacy. The Equipment / Extra's: 10/10 Billiards, large gym/exercise area... plenty of space , no restrictions. Trips to the beach will make you feel the heal. Other activities keep you free from boredom. The Treatment: 10/10 Any and all ailments, not just alcohol are met with sincere, professional solutions - your comfort level will determine decisions. I think they have the best addiction treatment plan. The Program: 10/10 It's the answer to your question... "can I be cured." Plus, you can smoke ( one affliction at a time, should be the path) inside and outside smoking. Everyone is kind and understanding. There is space, and plenty of it. Entering CMR Recovery is the best investment an afflicted person/family will ever make. -Brian
