ABOUT COMMUNICARE

Communicare is a Kentucky-based treatment center that treats behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse disorders. Its Elizabethtown, Ky., facility, which opened in 1967, is one of several locations across eight counties run by Communicare, and it offers an outpatient program for substance abuse treatment - one of 315 centers across Kentucky to do so.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon arrival, a chemical dependency assessment is completed. The first step in recovery involves participation in codependency treatment. Communicare offers family, individual, and group therapy, in addition to aftercare services. The staff also helps with referral services, treatment for DUI offenders, and education, depending on a client’s needs.

All Communicare locations can refer individuals to the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which is offered three times a week for eight weeks. Citehealth reported that the facility has special groups and programs for clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders. The IOP program offers family, individual, and group counseling, however, it isn’t available at every location.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The organization’s chief behavioral health officer is a master’s level psychological associate. To date, no information regarding staffing at the Elizabethtown location is available on the facility’s website. However, an individual polled by Rehabs.com at this time of writing gave staff five out of five stars for its level of experience and training.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

No information regarding accommodations and amenities is available on the facility’s website. Citehealth only mentions that as this is an outpatient facility, it does not provide residence for clients. However, the sole individual who submitted a review to Rehabs.com to date gave the Communicare Elizabethtown facility’s accommodations five out of five stars and praised its cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has received no alumni reviews to date and third-party sites yield few results. On Facebook, which the facility has the ability to manage, Communicare received an average 3.3 stars from 10 reviewers.[1]
Seven alumni gave the center five out of five stars and praised the staff for their kindness. Those who gave one and two out of five stars left no commentary on areas that could use improvement.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one responding to a Rehabs.com poll gave the facility five out of five stars across fourteen metrics. The loved one praised evaluated Communicare’s family program and counseling options. He or she also felt positively about the staff and long-term effectiveness of this program.

The reviewer noted that the loved one didn’t stay at the center long, but wrote: “Patient care was good...I know they are a very good facility.”[1]

FINANCING

Communicare accepts Medicare, Medicaid, other insurance plans, and offers a sliding fee scale for qualifying individuals. It is one of 228 facilities in Kentucky to offer a sliding scale payment option.

CONCLUSION

In 2016, WLKY Louisville reported that a local lawyer was arrested for stealing a client’s settlement from a loved one’s death at another Communicare facility. The client’s son choked to death in 2010 after being left unattended.

Patient care was good...I know they are a very good facility but my family member didn't stay long enough for me to accurately say how well they are. Just from the time they spent there the facility was a very good place.
