About CommuniCare Health Centers Behavioral Health Services

Founded in order to provide healthcare for farm laborers and others who didn't traditionally have access to care, CommuniCare Health Centers has now been providing a range of medical, dental, and behavioral health services in Northern California's Yolo County for more than four decades.

Like 54.9 percent of addiction treatment facilities in California, the center operates on a private, nonprofit basis. In Woodland, 23 miles northwest of central Sacramento, CommuniCare offers outpatient-based care for adults and adolescents struggling with substance use disorder and dual diagnosis through its Hansen Family Health Center.

Screenings are available on a walk-in basis during set times. Clients receiving treatment for behavioral health conditions first undergo an assessment, which includes a physical exam. They are then referred to a plan of treatment that addresses particular needs, most often standard outpatient care for adults, though there are also dedicated tracks for youth and individuals struggling with dual diagnosis, as well as an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for pregnant women.

Treatment is evidence-based and takes place mostly in individual and group settings, with the most common treatment approach being cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which is offered at around 88 percent of facilities in California.

The Perinatal Day Treatment Program for women who are or recently have been pregnant includes transportation and childcare along with sessions on parenting, relationships, trauma recovery, and relapse prevention. For youth, there are prevention and educational programs.

CommuniCare is also one of the 21.9 percent of California treatment facilities that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using Suboxone for opioid addiction. MAT using Vivitrol is also available. All MAT clients must attend counseling as well as receiving their medications.

Care is provided by a team of social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, and licensed professional counselors.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff, but the Woodland facility has mixed feedback on secondary sites, with average ratings of 3.2 stars based on five reviews on Facebook, 3.7 stars based on 10 reviews on Google, and two stars based on four reviews (including "not recommended" reviews) on Yelp.[1] [2] [3]

The negative reviews repeatedly described a disorganized facility in which it's very difficult to get care: "Communication is almost non existent, appointments are cancelled without anyone calling, so I show up after taking time off work to be told I need to take more time off to come back," Jane wrote in a typical comment on Yelp. A handful of reviewers disagreed, noting that they had received prompt, polite care. "Pretty prompt, always friendly. Staff is top of the line," Erika wrote in a representative positive statement on Yelp.

Fees are assessed on a sliding scale for clients without health insurance. Several state and commercial insurance plans are accepted, including Medi-Cal.
