Specialization

Residential Treatment

Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.

12-Step

The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

ABOUT COMPREHENSIVE ADDICTION PROGRAMS, INC.

Comprehensive Addiction Programs, Inc. (CAP) serves about 200 clients per year through its drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation services. Since 1972, it's provided residential treatment to adults in the Fresno, California community struggling with substance use disorder. Non-medical detox and transitional living services are also offered. CAP is a private nonprofit facility, which make up about 55 percent of all treatment facilities in the state; it is one of the 335 (24.4 percent) of California facilities that offers short term, residential treatment services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Each client participates in a phone screening process prior to admission in order to determine his or her qualifications for service and level of care needed. Staff and clients develop individualized treatment plans to help manage co-occurring medical conditions and to work toward recovery. CAP uses the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) assessment tool.

The residential program is based on a social model and prioritizes addiction education, peer group counseling, 24-hour supervision, and mental health assessment. Groups supporting behavioral changes and long-term recovery are 12-step based and cover a range of topics, including neurochemistry, family of origin, boundaries, spirituality, anger management, parenting, and relapse prevention. Chores are required during transitional living programs and a weekly aftercare group is available.

Weekly family education group attendance for residential clients is mandatory, following a seven-day separation period. Children 16 and under are exempt from this initial communication-blackout practice.

They noted that the staff was caring and that the programs were helpful, informative, and well-structured. "A great rehab facility with sincere staff, often overlooked," wrote one anonymous alum in a representative review. One alum did note that the staff needed more training, and the two dissatisfied former clients complained about frequently changing therapists and a lack of one-on-one counseling.

CAP fared well on secondary sites, where it earned average ratings of 4.1 out of five stars based on 17 Google reviews[1] and 4.6 out of five stars based on 47 Facebook reviews[2] (which the facility has the ability to edit). While two Google respondents complained about rude staff and poor customer service, the remainder of reviewers across both sites described CAP as a highly effective program for recovery. "Provides comprehensive treatment to address the "whole person" and assists with mental health wellness for individuals, family and couples. Excellent recovery services," an anonymous alum told Google in a representative review.

The two loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com to date provided CAP with mostly positive feedback, with a few reservations. The the location was a great benefit of the facility; there were no outside interferences. However, they lack specific counseling; you are just kind of thrown in there to follow rules, which is good but there are missed opportunities to self discover. There were a lot of issues: personality compatibility, or lack of, were deciding factors, instead of focusing on what it takes to get clean. There was also not enough counseling on a personal level.
