Operating more than 100 facilities in Delaware, Connections is a community support agency that provides substance abuse treatment, mental health support, healthcare, housing, and other supportive services to veterans, individuals on low incomes, and other vulnerable populations.

The nonprofit's Wilmington locations include an Integrated Health Clinic focused on psychiatric services, a women's residential rehab center (one of 22 Delaware facilities with specialized programming for women), and a men's sober living home. Various Connections social services specifically address the needs of veterans' families. The agency is a United Way partner and also provides addiction treatment in all of Delaware's correctional institutions.

Substance abuse treatment at Connections is multidisciplinary. Staff are trained in a variety of treatment methods, and use whichever most resonates with each client. As a whole, the organization has a particular emphasis on addressing the opioid epidemic.

Clients at the women's residential rehab facility in Wilmington participate in motivation-oriented therapy, according to the Connections website, engaging with peer specialists and recovery coaches, and working on relapse prevention techniques to help them stay sober long term. At the sober living facility, men typically stay for three to four months, and are expected to have a job during that time.

Although neither is available in Wilmington, Connections provides detox services 70 miles south, in Harrington, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including Suboxone programming, in Newark, Smyrna, Dover, Millsboro, and Harrington.

Connections' treatment team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, therapists, and nurses. The single individual polled by to date on the staff's level of training and experience gave it four out of five stars.

Both the 12-bed women's residential facility and the eight-bed men's sober-living home opened in 2016. No further details about the living arrangements are provided at present, but the single individual polled by to date on the center's accommodations, meals and nutrition, and cleanliness/upkeep gave them four, four, and five stars, respectively. The exercise and leisure offerings received three stars.

The single alum polled by to date gave negative feedback for the facility, giving Connections just two stars for its overall treatment effectiveness and writing: "Nor structured at all. Ni strengthens. Nooooo structure."

The Wilmington locations have mixed feedback on secondary sites, in the form of three ratings of one, three, and five out of five-star ratings on Google.[1] The positive reviewer left no accompanying commentary. Both of the other reviewers described problems with certain staff members. "Unprofessional with new patients. Very biased and judgemental to people seeking mental health treatment," reviewer Erin wrote. However, alum Kelly felt that staff members provided exemplary care.

And Connections, as a whole, has mixed feedback on Facebook (where the organization can curate its own reviews), with an average rating of 3.8 out of five stars based on 28 reviews.[2] The comments mostly echoed those found on Google, with some reviewers praising the center's staff while others described them as unhelpful or worse.

In addition, some reviewers praised the center's ambitious and worthy mission while others focused on disorganization at the center's facilities. "The staff is wonderful they treat you like a friend and not a client," Diamond wrote in a typical positive comment, though Jess wrote: "A joke---- dirty and unprofessional staff..."

The single loved one polled by to date would recommend Connections in Wilmington. "A caring professional community," they wrote, giving the center five stars for its family participation and four stars for its counseling options and ability to treat co-occurring disorders, but just three stars for its holistic offerings.

Connections has mixed reviews from staff, with average ratings of 2.8 out of five stars based on 68 reviews on and 3.6 stars based on 12 reviews on Glassdoor to date.[3] [4] Though both of these averages are for the organization as a whole, many of the reviews apply to the Wilmington locations in particular. The reviews reflect a very dedicated team. "Loved my clients, loved the experience of helping and supporting those in need," one Wilmington-based employee wrote in a typical comment on Glassdoor.

However, numerous reviewers cited disorganization, overworked staff, and a practice of hiring unqualified or questionably qualified individuals as weaknesses. "Connections has good intentions but is poorly managed. Employees should be screened better because anyone can work at Connections," another Wilmington-based staffer wrote in a representative review on Indeed.

Connections is among the 76.6 percent of Delaware facilities that accept Medicaid. The cost of services varies, but according to the Connections website, a sliding fee scale is available and some insurance is accepted. The single individual polled by to date on the center's affordability gave it four out of five stars.
