ABOUT COVENANT RECOVERY, INC.
Located in Pine Bluff, Ark., 42 miles south of Little Rock, Covenant Recovery is a substance misuse treatment facility offering transitional living services for adult men and women struggling with chemical dependency.
Covenant Recovery operates a second facility in Malvern, Ark., which offers a re-entry program for male prison inmates. According to a 2016 SAMHSA survey, 23 percent of rehabs in Arkansas offer a program for criminal justice clients.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To determine an individual's needs, clients may undergo a vocational/employment and substance misuse assessment upon intake. According to the facility’s website, the Covenant Recovery’s transitional program is a hybrid of outpatient and residential treatment. While the transitional program provides long-term structure, supervision, and support of residential treatment, the facility also offers the freedom to pursue practical goals to prepare for a successful discharge.
Length of stay is typically long-term, lasting anywhere from 30 days to 18 months. According to a 2016 SAMHSA survey, 23.9 percent of rehabs in Arkansas offer long-term (30 days or longer) residential treatment.
Each treatment plan is individualized and includes one-on-one counseling, education classes, and group therapy. Family therapy and educational lectures for loved ones are also available.
Major components of treatment are continuing education, employment, and vocational training as well as an on-site GED course. A 2016 SAMHSA survey indicates that 31.9 percent of non-hospital rehabs in Arkansas offer employment counseling or training for clients.
Additionally Covenant Recovery offers clients with legal issues the services of a court liaison who regularly communicates with courts, judges, and probation officers to address these issues.
According to the facility’s website, the treatment team is comprised of licensed substance abuse counselors and addiction specialists who have a combined 40 years of experience. All of the counselors are certified through the Arkansas State Board.
An article on Arkansas Democrat Gazette website indicates that the facility is licensed by Arkansas Community Correction, formerly the Department of Community Correction, as a transitional housing facility.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Covenant Recovery’s 6,000 sq. ft. facility can accommodate between 35 and 45 residents, The program is co-ed, however the living quarters and bathing facilities are gender-specific. Bedrooms accommodate multiple residents with bunk bed sleeping arrangements, and clients share closet, desk, and bathroom space. The facility also has an on-site computer lab, recreational and exercise yard, and basketball court. Residents are allowed to visit loved ones off-site on weekends.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Although Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from alumni at the time of this writing, secondary sources revealed generally positive feedback overall from alumni.
On the facility’s Facebook page, which facility staff can manage, 10 individuals gave an average rating of 3.9 out of five stars. Many cited the facility’s staff and overall effectiveness as its strength. “It helped me get my life together. I have 18 months clean now due to the great people at Convent Recovery,” alum Kristi wrote in a representative review. Similarly, on YellowPages.com, two reviewers awarded five out of five stars.
Nine reviewers on Google offered a slightly more critical of the facility giving an average rating of 2.3 out of five stars. Many complained about costs and being charged for everything from laundry to food. Alum Mike wrote in a representative review: "There are no licenced counselors there. The owner is the only one that is licensed and he is never there. There is no staff there from 10pm to 7:30am and there is so much chaos it will drive a sane person crazy."
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date gave a highly negative review. Out of five stars, loved one M.B. gave two stars for the facility’s counseling options and one star for the level of family participation. Describing the the facility as “poorly run,” M.B. wrote: “Did not do what the virtual tour said. No GED, all they wanted was for them to work 70 hours week. Very few groups…”
The two exceptions to their negative ratings were the facility's meals and overall accommodations, which received four and five stars respectively.
According to an article on the Arkansas Democrat Gazette website the State of Arkansas pays for half of of the treatment cost while clients are required to pay for the other half. Though there is currently no information provided on the facility's website regarding pricing, the sole individual surveyed by Rehabs.com to date indicated that they felt the price was unfair.
