CRI-Help - Socorro Residential Treatment Center Philosophy
Socorro was founded in 1987 to address the growing needs of the Latino community. We provide a full range of chemical dependency treatment services for adults 18 and over in both English and Spanish, breaking down language barriers that are often obstacles to obtaining treatment. Socorro offers the ideal design of an effective 12-Step Treatment program in conjunction with evidenced-based practices that are presented in a culturally relevant manner.
Areas of Specialization
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.
Outpatient treatment describes all addiction treatment that is not residential. Patients live at home while undergoing rehab.

ABOUT CRI-HELP – SOCORRO RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTER
Founded in 1971, CRI-Help is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable treatment to individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. The center’s four facilities, located in and around Los Angeles, offer detox, outpatient treatment, residential care, and transitional living services. The Socorro Residential Treatment Center, situated on the border of Lincoln Park, exclusively provides gender-specific residential treatment through programming that is tailored to the community’s Latino population.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Cri-Help’s programming is founded in 12-step principles and uses a disease-model approach to treating addiction. Clients who are experiencing withdrawal may begin their treatment in the center’s 15-bed detox unit. Detox is overseen by an on-site physician, and medication is prescribed as appropriate.
The duration of residential treatment is tailored to each individual client’s needs, and days spent on-site are highly structured. Clients participate in individual, group, and family therapy, as well as holistic and educational activities. Family members are encouraged to participate in the treatment process. The facility offers counseling and a range of different formats including gender-specific groups to maximize the effect on clients. There are also groups for trauma and other problem behavior influences.
In terms of educational courses, the facility offers courses designed to promote coping and sober living skills development. Process group topics include grief, trauma, and life skills, and residents receive counseling and education on HIV and other health concerns. Clients are also exposed to skills like money management, vocational skills, and self-reliance skills that support sober living and family life management.
A range of physical activities is made available to promote continued recovery and skills development. The center provides access to yoga, acupuncture, and, for an additional fee, Neurofeedback. Clients are encouraged to participate in physical activities in order to promote physical health development and recovery during treatment.
According to the CRI-Help’s website, the staff includes doctors, psychologists, nurses, therapists, spiritual counselors, and certified drug counselors. Each staff member is trained and most are certified in their specific fields. Staff members have extensive experience working with clients in rehab.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The center’s 78-bed residential facility provides gender-specific accommodations. Smoking is allowed in designated areas, and visiting hours are held on Sunday afternoons. Residents begin the day with a 6 a.m. wake-up call and guided meditation. All meals are served on-site in a communal dining area. The two individuals polled to date by Rehabs.com on CRI-Help’s accommodations and amenities gave it satisfactory ratings of four and five out of five stars.
