ABOUT CROSSROADS FOR WOMEN - MAYA’S PLACE

Crossroads for Women, located in Albuquerque, N.M., provides integrated, comprehensive trauma-related services with a gender-specific approach. Maya's Place, one of four programs sponsored by Crossroads, is a structured rehabilitative residential housing and support program for women recently released from jail or prison.

Crossroads for Women was founded in 1997 and Maya's Place was opened in 2005. The organization is one of 69 (44.8 percent) treatment facilities in New Mexico that is a nonprofit entity, according to a 2016 SAMHSA survey.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To qualify for services from Crossroads for Women, women must be on parole or probation through the New Mexico Corrections Department or referred through Federal Probation Officers. Additionally, they must be sober at the time of admission and have at least one co-occurring issue. The facility is among the 37.7 percent of facilities in the state to offer specialized treatment for criminal justice clients.

Throughout their stay, women participate in on-site therapeutic programming to address their substance misuse and any mental health concerns. Treatment includes a variety of services such as life skills education, group therapy, vocational training, parenting classes, and holistic options. Treatment is designed to last three to 12 months, making Crossroads for Women one of only 16 (10.4 percent) treatment facilities in New Mexico to offer long-term residential care. According to the organization's website, patients cannot take prescribed Suboxone, Methadone, or medical marijuana during their stay.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Backed by the Crossroads executive team, Maya’s Place staffs a program director, a case manager who brings more than 25 years of sobriety to the program, as well as a vocational coordinator. Crossroads also relies heavily on support from volunteers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Maya's Place is a 12-bed facility in a multi-lease apartment site. Though there is currently no other specific information provided regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, two individuals who responded to the Rehabs.com survey to date both gave positive ratings ( four or five stars) for the facility's cleanliness and its exercise and leisure options.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The single alum surveyed by Rehabs.com to date provided extremely positive feedback. The anonymous reviewer gave five-star ratings nearly across the board, including to categories such as holistic offerings, family participation, and treatment effectiveness. Additionally, they gave a five-star rating for the staff’s level of training and experience. "The people are nice. it helps," the alum wrote.

Alumni on Google echoed these sentiments, with most also offering positive feedback.[1] The 25 reviewers contributed to an average 4.8 out of five-star rating, though reviews were not necessarily specific to the Maya's Place program. Similar to the alum surveyed by Rehabs.com, many reviewers praised the facility's staff.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Similar to reviews from alumni, the single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date offered mostly positive feedback. The anonymous reviewer gave four or five-star ratings to almost all of the 15 metrics evaluated with the exception of three-star ratings for holistic options and affordability, noting that the treatment was “expensive.” Like alumni, the loved one noted that the facility had “good staff.” However, they also wrote that there is “poor structure.” Overall, the reviewer would recommend Maya's Place, giving this metric a four-star rating.

FINANCING

According to its website, the operational and clinical expenses for Maya’s Place are covered largely by the City of Albuquerque, the New Mexico Department of Health, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and other federal and state agencies.
