Review by Rehabs.com Contributors

Nonprofit Elmhurst Home, Inc. was founded in 1970 to treat those struggling with substance abuse and criminal behavior, and today operates two residential facilities: one for men and one for women. This men’s treatment center, located in a residential neighborhood seven miles northwest of central Detroit, offers both short- and long-term residential treatment for men aged 18 and over who are struggling with substance abuse and dual diagnosis.

Short-term programs last 14 to 30 days; long-term treatment lasts 90 days.

Treatment consists of weekly individual and group therapy as well as more frequent group therapy, family reconciliation sessions, and attendance at 12-step meetings held both on- and off-site. In addition to the 12-step program, the center uses cognitive behavioral techniques and offers relapse prevention, anger management training, and parenting classes.

The center also aims to provide its residents with life skills, offering a certified GED literacy program, life skills training, computer skills classes, employment and housing assistance, and work therapy. Additionally, the facility provides HIV and STD testing and education.

Staff includes a PhD-level clinical supervisor, finance expert, and a social worker. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it four out of five stars.

The treatment facility is a Tudor-style brick building on a corner lot. Pictures published on Elmhurst Home’s website show a slightly run-down clinical environment with bunk beds in dorm-style shared bedrooms and a large catering kitchen. Meals and recreational activities are provided. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center’s accommodations gave them three out of five stars.

At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has not received feedback from alumni of Elmhurst Home, Inc.'s men's facility; however, on Facebook, the facility earned a one-star review and a five-star review with no accompanying commentary.[1]

The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date would recommend treatment at Elmhurst Home, Inc.'s men's facility. They awarded Elmhurst Home five out of five stars for its overall effectiveness and its family program, but just three out of five stars for its holistic treatment options, and wrote: “Staff was a strength.”

The single staffer polled by Rehabs.com to date would not recommend Elmhurst Home to friends and family. Though they praised the center’s CBT curriculum, they criticized the “lack of professionalism and open mindedness to concerns, ideas or expertise of staff by administration,” and gave the center two out of five stars for its honesty and the overall quality of the care it offers.

Elmhurst Home’s website notes that no client is turned away for a lack of insurance or funds, but does not provide further information about the facility’s costs or financial arrangements. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center’s affordability gave it four out of five stars, and the staffer polled on the fairness of Elmhurst Home’s pricing gave the center three out of five stars in this category.

Had a relative there it's been a while. Staff was a strength.

Two decades of license professional services. Caring supportive therapist. Lack of professionalism and open mindedness to concerns, ideas or expertise of staff by administration. Administration and clinical overseen by one individual with minimal background in clinical concepts.

Official Facility Response

Rehabs.com collects thousands of User Reviews weekly to collect the most up-to-date information possible on treatment facilities across the country. The opinions shared in User Reviews are expressly those of the user, and do not reflect the thoughts, beliefs, or opinions of Rehabs.com. Per our policies, we do not remove User Reviews at the request of a facility.

Treatment facilities can and are encouraged to respond directly to any User Review, positive or negative. In fact, visitors are more likely to favorably consider a facility that actively responds to criticism (and praise!) to one that doesn’t.

Please leave your Facility Response below using a verified facility-specific email address. A representative from Rehabs.com will vet your response within two business days to ensure it meets our standards for public posting. Rehabs.com retains the right to contact anyone who leaves a review via our website to confirm authenticity.
