ABOUT EVERGREEN RECOVERY CENTERS – EVERETT

Evergreen Recovery Centers, founded in 1973 as Evergreen Manor, has multiple locations throughout Washington State. The women’s residential center and outpatient facility, both located in Everett, offers medical detox, a variety of outpatient programs, and residential substance abuse treatment for pregnant and parenting mothers.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients start by undergoing a drug or alcohol abuse assessment to determine the best course for treatment. DUI assessments, family and drugs court, and Child Protective Services are also available.

Evergreen’s outpatient program is customized to suit each client’s unique needs. Treatment is comprised of a variety of components, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), moral reconation therapy (MRT), family education and counseling, anger management, and 12-step facilitation, among many others. Aftercare and relapse prevention are also offered. Evergreen offers treatment at various times throughout the day to accommodate clients’ work schedules.

Residential treatment for women follows a similar model, but incorporates specialized programming such as parenting skills training, family planning, domestic violence support, and basic life skills education. The program, which is six months in duration, allows for children under the age of five to live with their mothers while they receive care. Clients may also begin treatment while pregnant and deliver their babies on-site. An on-site daycare center provides licensed child care as well as early childhood education combined with therapeutic play activities.

Evergreen offers a weekend Family Program aimed at counseling and educating loved ones about substance abuse. There is also a one-day, eight-hour course about alcohol and other drugs for which participants receive a certificate of completion. Additionally, the facility offers a 12-week anger management class for those struggling with frustration along with a year-long treatment program for domestic violence perpetrators.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Medical detox is managed by a clinical team that includes ARNPs, RNs, nurses, chemical dependency counselors, and other addiction specialists. The women’s residential program advertises a 3:1 staff-to-client ratio and a team of clinicians licensed in both chemical dependency and mental health. No detailed information regarding the outpatient program staff is available.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Clients of the residential program can expect to share rooms. The facility is completely smoke and tobacco-free. Additionally, no phone calls are permitted in the first seven days of treatment, and residents are not allowed to leave the facility during the first two months of their stay.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

In general, alumni polled by Rehabs.com gave Evergreen mixed scores for the center’s staff and the program’s effectiveness. Six alumni polled at the time of this writing gave an overall three-star rating for both treatment effectiveness and accommodations, with slightly more favor when it came to meals (3.67 stars). Three alumni polled in further metrics rated Evergreen highest in both affordability and staff's level of experience and training at a perfect five stars. Counseling options received the lowest rating at four stars.

Clients rated Evergreen's holistic treatment options and recreational opportunities slightly lower. This is reflected in some of the commentary collected by Rehabs.com. C.B., who provided a lower than average rating for her experience and wrote: “I was very isolated and unhappy. Not many options for activity, exercise, etc.” Alum Tiffany also gave low ratings in general for Evergreen and wrote: “This was a joke. They are horrible, dysfunctional, and uncaring. I would not recommend this treatment facility to anyone.”

In contrast, three alumni submitted glowing reviews to Rehabs.com. Stefenie gave treatment effectiveness and accommodations four out of five stars and wrote: “The councilors are well educated, have lots of different resources to help you out with ANYTHING, and are so polite!”

An anonymous alum noted that the building was “older” without "much fresh air opportunity; however, this alum still gave her treatment five out of five stars and wrote: “The counselors really care and truly listen. You learn all the information you could want to know. The rules are strong but necessary to get healthy.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Loved ones tended to express similar concerns and praises in their feedback to Rehabs.com. One anonymous respondent noted that “boredom was a huge problem for a lot of people” and suggested that group counseling was “lacking.” This loved one still issued a five-star rating for treatment effectiveness, writing: “Despite all the little gripes the fascility and program worked well.”

Another loved one experienced some administrative-related difficulties, including “long wait lists” and the facility’s failure to follow through with legal paperwork. This anonymous reviewer concluded their review by stating: “Other than that they are convenient and relatively easy to get in to.”

On Google, nine reviewers to date, many of whom were loved ones, rated Evergreen an average three out of five stars, with five four- and five-star reviews and four one-star reviews.[1] On Yelp, three reviewers to date rated Evergreen one, four, and five out of five stars, and on Evergreen's Facebook page (which it may curate), three reviewers to date rated the facility one, five, and five out of five stars.[2][3]

Reviewers were mostly split on treatment of staff and quality of accommodations. Loved one Helena in a one-star review on Google wrote: "My son was kick out after 3 days not another chance not getting a call to calm him down," while loved one Carol on Google rated the facility five stars and wrote her son was "Treated super," although she added: "The only complaint I heard was the about the food. He also left with no balance of Money!"

FINANCING

Evergreen does not publish its pricing, but notes that Medicaid is accepted and that they help those without insurance. The facility’s website says no one will be turned down for an inability to pay and that “health insurance and private pay can be arranged.” The eight-hour alcohol and drug education course costs $120 before entry.

This facility used to be for treatmentfor the clients. Now its geered more towards customer service. They have a high turnover in the counseling staff. I really think the success rate is really low. I give it 2 stars. I was an employee.

When I look back at my life I realize what a significant role Evergreen Manor had in my life. This is a program that cares enough for humanity to truly want towith give an opportunity of a better life to those that have lost their way in addiction. If one is serious about wanting to change, this is a program that will guide and support you until you are strong and capable enough to function and sustain oneself and manage our lives in today"s world without the use of drugs. I am so pleased to see this program continuing to help women and children in need. Thank you Evergreen Manor and all of you there that have touched my life. JL

Allowed to keep newborn with mother. Food was plentiful but a little more variation would be a welcome change. Excellent 1 on 1 counseling. Group therapy sessions lacking. Boredom was a huge problem for a lot of people. No internet and the one pay phone was massively over regulated. No place for exercise except 1/2 a block of sidewalk to walk on. Despite all the little gripes the fascility and program worked well.

The counselors really care and truly listen. You learn all the information you could want to know. The rules are strong but necessary to get healthy. Its an older building. The staff monitors frequently quit. Not much fresh air opportunity. Keeping in mind your in treatment and you can't trust yourself and your decisions which is why they have rules in place. This is the best facility and program I have been blessed and able to attend. They cover everything you could ever want and more. The length of the program helps you relearn how to live and become comfortable again. They don't just boot you out after your done withdrawing. They care and want you to succeed.

Often there are long wait lists. They often lose paperwork required for court and the individual ends up in legal trouble because the facility did not follow through on their paperwork. Other than that they are convenient and relatively easy to get in to.
