Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.
Dual Diagnosis/Co-occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

ABOUT EVOLVE TREATMENT CENTERS FOR TEENS
With numerous facilities in Southern California, Evolve's network provides nine of California's 279 treatment programs (21.3 percent) dedicated to treating adolescents. Across locations in and around San Diego and Los Angeles, the center offers residential treatment, various levels of outpatient care, and aftercare programming for adolescents aged 12–17 who are struggling with substance use disorder, mental health disorders, or a dual diagnosis. In addition, the facility is one of the just 197 (15 percent) treatment centers in the state with detox services available on site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Programming is strengths-based and draws on a range of evidence-based therapies, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), structural family therapy, and solutions-focused therapy, as well as mindfulness training and experiential therapies such as equine therapy, surfing, yoga, and art therapy.
The center also uses 12-step supports as one modality in its broad array of treatment approaches. Whenever possible, parents are encouraged to attend individual family therapy, multi-family support groups, and parenting groups.
The residential program serves clients aged 12 to 17 and generally lasts 30 to 90 days. Outpatient options include a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and general outpatient care. The IOP runs between three and five days a week, depending on the client’s level of need, for three to six months.
Following all treatment programs, clients leave with a detailed transition plan to ensure their continued sobriety. For graduates of residential care and the PHP, aftercare involves weekly calls, support, and guidance. The center also boasts an active alumni association.
Staff includes psychiatrists, nurses, licensed therapists and counselors, and recovery coaches. The center also employs fitness trainers and a chef. Evolve also employs an educational staff to enable residents to pursue their education during treatment. The five individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the matter, all employs, appreciated the staff's level of training and experience.
Staff Experience and Training: 5/5
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The center operates six residential homes, each of which is supervised 24 hours a day. Depending on their location, residents might have access to any one of a number of luxury amenities, including swimming pools, fully equipped gyms, tennis courts, basketball courts, manicured yards, and even a recording studio. The five reviewers polled by Rehabs.com on the matter appreciated the quality of the facilities.
Facility Cleanliness and Upkeep: 5/5
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The five alumni to share feedback with Rehabs.com to date provided highly polarized opinions of this facility. While former client R.C. commented, "In house therapists and techs Housing is sub par," alum A.S. countered, ""Great therapist and dedicated staff." Additionally, D.J.P. wrote, "I had multiple 1 on 1 sessions a week with my therapist. I have been clean and sober for 5 1/2 years now. I could not have asked for a better place to get help!" However, dissatisfied alumni repeatedly mentioned medication mismanagement and being kept longer than necessary in for financial reasons.
WHAT FAMILY SAY
The two loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com to date both shared extremely positive experiences with the facility. Both parents of adolescents who attended the treatment center, these two reviewers credited the program with getting their children sober. "The therapists went out of their way to support me along the way, and contacted me immediately if there were any concerns. My daughter enjoyed the programs," E.L. added in praise of the family connectivity.
On Google, seven individuals awarded the West Los Angeles location a perfect five-star average rating. Parent Norma wrote: "Our whole family learned so much from the team at Evolve. Now he is back in school and is so much happier," while parent Michael added: "My daughter’s time in one of Evolve’s residential houses, then the extensive after-care provided, gave her the tools to begin addressing her emotional issues without drugs."
WHAT STAFF SAY
Of the six staff members polled by Rehabs.com to date, five provided perfect ratings for nearly every single surveyed category. All five of these staffers offered five-star ratings for whether or not they would recommend this facility to others, the center's treatment of co-occurring disorders, the level of family participation, and counseling options.
Family Participation: 5/5
Counseling Options: 5/5
Likelihood to Recommend: 5/5
These individuals awarded high praise for quality of care, affordability, and facilities. "Devoted to treatment, family feeling between coworkers as well as with clients and their families in treatment, supportive environment, willing to work with families to make treatment possible, Kind and caring staff," S.R. representatively wrote.
However, the sixth staff member disagreed, feeling that clients are kept longer than necessary and charged more than necessary. "Executives care about making money and staff is considered an inconvenient necessity. Patients come second," this individual added.
To date, 19 current and former employees provided a 3.7 out of five-star average rating for this facility on Indeed. Comments reflect those from Rehabs.com reviews, where staffers felt that the quality of care is high, but that the facility's management focused more on making a profit than providing life-changing care.
Evolve is in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Healthnet, and regularly works with other insurers on an out-of-network basis. The center's staff will contact your insurance on your behalf to check your benefits. The precise cost of treatment depends on the client's needs, but the five reviewers (all of them staff) polled on the center's affordability provided perfect ratings.

JKI work as a psychiatric social worker for adolescents. My role is to find placement to help teens get help that are in need of Residential Treatment. I recently had a very sweet, high needs kiddo with high needs and was very difficult to find placement for. Out of about 10 residential programs I sent clinical packets to, Evolve was the only program to actually call and talk to the kiddo I was trying to find help for. I have worked in this role for 7 years and have a lot of experience with Residential programs but was really impressed by their intake process and level of competence. This is a program I will continue to refer to and reach out to for my kiddos due to their effort, patience and time they take to get to know the kiddo instead on judging them by their paperwork. I would trust my family with Evolve RTC.
CathyMy son was struggling with suicidal thoughts and major depression. I talked with the social worker and arranged for him to attend Evolve. I backed out of bringing him. She was so caring and compassionate. She allowed me to reach out to her for six months regarding his depression and behavior issues. He was finally at rock bottom over a month ago. I reached out and she arranged for him to admit to Evolve within a week. I am eternally grateful for her. We arrived home yesterday from Evolve Aguara Hills. Thanks to the wonderful psychologist, his therapist Lianne and his favorite staff Jessica and everyone else he came home a different man. He wants to live. He loves life again. He came home fit and healthy with many coping skills for depression. I could go on and on. Evolve Aguara Hill you are the best. Thank you for helping my son. God Bless
ELMy daughter attended the residential treatment, PHP and IOP programs at Evolve. I cannot praise them enough for their endless efforts. They have been extremely patient, supportive, kind and helpful to me, my family and especially my daughter. The therapists went out of their way to support me along the way, and contacted me immediately if there were any concerns. My daughter enjoyed the programs. The staff at evolve teach the teens the skill sets that they need to succeed, and "handle" their challenges. All the staff at the various facilities were extremely kind and polite to me. The teens felt safe at their treatment facilities, and I was amazed at how quickly my daughter "opened up" and shared her challenges with the counselors and therapists. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything they have done to date to help my daughter. We were blessed with caring therapists that held my daughter accountable for her actions when she returned home after the treatment. I definitely recommend Evolve Treatment Facilities to troubles teens that need guidance.
MgIndividualized treatment, compassionate care, strong staff, beautiful facility. Wonderful environment for both the staff and the clients. I feel supported by my supervisors and always feel we are striving to give the best treatment.
AnonymousThis organization has grown too quickly and with disregard to keeping services at a high level
JSAll of the homes are beautiful, and is a home environment for the clients to open up the communication lines and feel comfortable with who they are, and work towards who they want to be in the future with constant support and relationship they can achieve peace with in themselves. Finding their own paths in life on a individual bases opens their hearts to heal themselves and rebuild their family stronger.Clients could cook more of their own meals. Each house is unique in their own way, and finding the house that is going to work for your child is key to the success.
MJEvolve has a strong, knowledgeable, talented and diverse clinical team to meet the needs of a variety of clients. They are passionate about helping adolescents achieve a healthy level of functioning through exposing them to a variety of groups and treatment modalities. I cannot think of any weaknesses. Being a staff member at Evolve residential was such a rewarding experience. Evolve really focuses on the importance of the connection between clients and staff. Staff are constantly available to help client who are struggling, need a time out, or just need a trustworthy adult to talk with. It is such as a staff to play an integral role in the client's road to recovery.
JESEvolve is able to help teens with a many different issues, from Substance Abuse to Mental Health. The staff is extremely professional and do a great job working with both the clients and their families. There are not a lot of good treatment options out there for teenagers, I am glad Evolve is there to help. They offer all levels of care from residential to out-patient. There is a strong focus on DBT skills which is really helpful, particularly for teens who have a hard time self regulating their emotions. Evolve is often is on a waitlist, likely because of the average length of stay (30-45 days) and such limited options for parents. In my experience this program offers treatment that works. Their admissions team is very caring and knowledgable. They will always provide referrals if they are not able to help. Evolve is also always willing to work with families to make their program affordable to families with or without insurance. You should definitely call to see how they can help.
AEvolve Treatment Center was a huge mistake. Keeping up with school work is not something they seem to consider to be important, which has created an academic gulf between my daughter and the classes we were hoping she would be able to transition back into. It's definitely going to impact her college prospects, as this is a crucial year for her.
sbHorrible place to work that DOES not provide substance abuse treatment...and owners and management DOES NOT CARE.. they only care if u can pay to be there.
AnonymousEvolve is truly a train wreck. How anyone didn't lose their jobs over medication mess ups absolutely confounds me.
DGIn all of my life I have never received worse customer service. I would rather deal with the DMV. I've gotten more compassion from the cable company. Communication has been better with call centers in India. Smarter people work at the kennel where I board my dogs. I cannot believe how profoundly incompetent, uncaring and unprofessional these people are. They take you in, telling you what you want to hear, mishandle the insurance and throw you out the minute insurance is denied.
SRDevoted to treatment, family feeling between coworkers as well as with clients and their families in treatment, supportive environment, willing to work with families to make treatment possible, Kind and caring staff, Went through rough patches during a merger I have been with Evolve since the beginning and while it did have some rough patches during a time of a merger it never compromised the treatment of the clients themselves. I know there were some hard feelings of employees that had to be let go. Who ever wants to lose a job?? I am proud that we provide amazing treatment to clients, that we go above and beyond to meet each and every kids individual needs because there are no two adolescents alike and each and every child and their families deserve to be met at their individual level and grow from there. They deserve to have the opportunity to continue onto a beautiful journey after they leave treatment and we are absolutely devoted to that. I am grateful and enjoy working for Evolve Treatment Centers and I will continue to do everything I can to provide unsurpassed services to the families we care so much about.
ACClinical and holistic care. At BeachWay Therapy Center the focus is on the individual and group treatment and providing a safe comfortable place for people who are looking to get their lives back on track, learn some new coping skills and establish lifelong sobriety
RCIn house therapists and techs Housing is sub par
DJPA strength was Individualized care and 1 on 1 attention Nothing to complain about! I came to Beachway in...the spring of 2011. I was terrified. I grew up in Harrisburg PA... I spoke with an admissions coordinator at Beachway and she made me feel very welcome. I got on a plane and hoped for the best. Beachway changed my life. The staff were all so caring. You were not just a number to them.. they knew you by name, they knew about your family, what you were struggling with, etc. The 1 on 1 care was amazing here too. I had multiple 1 on 1 sessions a week with my therapist. I have been clean and sober for 5 1/2 years now. I could not have asked for a better place to get help! The whole facility is beautiful !! They make you feel at home right away!! I have also sent some family members and friends through the program and they have all been successful too! I am forever in debt to Beachway and all they have given me.
ASGreat therapist and dedicated staff. A weakness is that it is always changing. This is one of the strongest most reputable programs around. Do your research before deciding where to go!
AWThere are multiple reasons why this facilities license should be revoked. They disregard any court orders involving the patient and their best interests. As a for profit they employ therapists that are inexperienced with the majority not yet licensed. There is a heavy reliance on prescribing medications not for the patient\'s benefit, but to keep them sedated. They.. admit more patients than the staff can handle and do not work through patient's issues. They are non-communicative at best, dishonest at worst.
