Aftercare Support

Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.

Individual Therapy:

This term describes one-on-one therapy, in which a patient and trained counselor, social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist meets privately with a patient to discuss challenges related to lifestyle, work, family and romantic relationships that may have contributed to the development of an addiction.

Facility Highlights
  • We have a state of the art music studio and our very own horses!
  • With only 6 beds per home, we are able to focus intensely on each client’s recovery.
  • Our evidence based treatment includes DBT, CBT, ABA, 12-step support, family therapy and alumni aftercare.

Located in Woodland Hills, Calif., Evolve Treatment Centers is one of the 279 (21.3 percent) locations in the state that offers treatment services to teens (12 to 17 years old) who are struggling with substance abuse. Offering residential care, the center also features a programming track for individuals struggling with co-occurring mental health disorders, making it one of the 720 (54.9 percent) in the state to do so. In addition, the facility is amongst the 197 (15 percent) in California with non-hospital detoxification services available on-site.

According to the facility's website, there are three important elements to detox: evaluation, stabilization, and preparation. The evaluation stage includes drug testing, psychological evaluations, and a physical assessment.

During the stabilization phase, the treatment team ensures the mental and physical health of the individual during the withdrawal period. And, preparation is designed to stress the importance of pursuing a treatment program after detox.

During admissions into its treatment programs, the treatment team conducts an assessment on each client. The assessment is used to create an individualized recovery plan, which typically include individual and group therapy.

In counseling sessions, Evolve Treatment Centers utilizes multiple different evidence-based therapies, such as dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), applied behavioral analysis (ABA), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The facility also facilitates 12-step participation, as well as family therapy and support groups for loved ones.

Teens also participate in a range of experiential therapies, including equine-assisted therapy, social outings, surfing, music, art, dance, boxing, hiking, and physical fitness.

During treatment, teens continue schooling with the education staff at Evolve Treatment Centers. Before leaving treatment, the center's staff creates an aftercare plan for each client.

Evolve Treatment Center's website indicates the treatment team includes counselors, therapists, an affiliated psychiatrist, and nurses. The facility boasts a client-to-staff ratio of 3:1.

According to the facility's website, the Woodland Hills location houses only six teens at a time. Accommodations include five acres of grounds and ponds, a full-size pool, TV room, school area with computers, an on-site equine therapy program with a modern horse corral and riding area, tennis and basketball courts, and a fully equipped gym.

The single alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided a mixed review. They gave two out of five stars for treatment effectiveness and the facility's accommodations and amenities. While the alum praised the center's staff, they cited problems with programming. "Most staff were kind," they wrote. "They hardly had any groups about depression and anxiety, and no groups about eating disorders." The alum also felt uncomfortable with the lack of privacy, and noted they wouldn't recommend the facility.

While Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from loved ones at the time of this writing, and reviews on secondary sites were equally scarce, one loved one gave a five-star review on Google.[1] "The staff is fantastic, young, educated and hip enough for his son to connect with," S.L. praised.

The sole staff member surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided very positive feedback. They gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition.

"Evolve has a strong, knowledgeable, talented and diverse clinical team to meet the needs of a variety of clients," they wrote. "They are passionate about helping adolescents achieve a healthy level of functioning through exposing them to a variety of groups and treatment modalities."

The facility's website indicates Evolve Treatment Centers accepts insurance and is in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Healthnet. On out-of-network basis, the center also works regularly with Aetna, Amerihealth, Cigna, GHI, Magellan, Optum, United Healthcare, Oxford, Value Options, Humana, and others.

I went to Evolve for suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, and they diagnosed me there with an eating disorder. Most staff were kind. Unfortunately, their focus in treatment was for substance abuse and anger management. They hardly had any groups about depression and anxiety, and no groups about eating disorders. When i asked if they could add in more groups that would help my treatment, they said they would, but nothing happened. Thats a common thing at Evolve. They say they're doing/going to do something, and then don't do it. Their daily schedule was packed, and you weren't allowed to have down time, except one hour on weekdays. You're watched 24/7, there are security cameras and staff members are with you at all times. You are not allowed to use electronics, except the computers for school and the iPod shuffles they provide for during rec or music therapy. You're only allowed to be in your room when changing clothes or sleeping. You have no privacy except when using the bathroom or changing clothes. Evolve staff are mandated reporters, however, another client who I met there, had an abusive home-life ...nothing has been done about this. I was prescribed a medication as needed for panic attacks, and Evolve's psychiatrist wouldn't let me take the medication because "i was going to get addicted", even though i have no history with substance abuse. What their policy is (and what they should've done) is to send back the medication with my family when they dropped me off. They didn't. When i was discharged, they didn't give back the medication they previously had taken away and wouldn't give me... Evolve said they would send the medication in the mail. It's been a full month and after multiple emails and phone calls, we've heard close to nothing. Unfortunately, this treatment center has tons of issues. The staff is lovely, but the program itself doesn't care about the clients, just the money. I DO NOT recommend Evolve Treatment Center.

Evolve has a strong, knowledgeable, talented and diverse clinical team to meet the needs of a variety of clients. They are passionate about helping adolescents achieve a healthy level of functioning through exposing them to a variety of groups and treatment modalities. I cannot think of any weaknesses. Being a staff member at Evolve residential was such a rewarding experience. Evolve really focuses on the importance of the connection between clients and staff. Staff are constantly available to help client who are struggling, need a time out, or just need a trustworthy adult to talk with. It is such as a staff to play an integral role in the client's road to recovery.
