The Extra Mile is a place of new beginnings for those suffering from the disease of alcoholism and addiction. Tucked away in the beautiful landscape of the Natchez Trace, our center provides a serene environment which allows our residents to focus on themselves and begin healing. Through a combination of intensive clinical therapy and 12 step immersion, a solution is given and a new model for living is developed. Our patients will graduate with a firm understanding of their disease and a method to find complete freedom from it. The families of our patients will also learn tools to create a healthy dynamic with their loved one. Our team members are not only the highest caliber professionals, but have recovered from their own battles with addiction. This is of the utmost importance to relaying this solution, as we have been where our patients are. This uniquely qualifies us to treat this disease! Our goal is to send our people out into the communities, not only to stay sober themselves, but to be able to provide these tools to others. Our graduates will truly know what it means to go The Extra Mile for their recovery!
Areas of Specialization
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.
Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The facility’s treatment program follows the 12-Steps, and clients regularly attend Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings. The 12-Step program is incorporated by 48 percent of U.S. facilities as a key component in treatment. It can be used in a faith-based or non-faith-based program and has been a proven-effective tool for long-term treatments.
Treatment is divided into three phases, making it one of Mississippi’s 28 long-term residential treatment programs. Phase One lasts for the first 30 days, Phase Two from months two through five, and Phase Three from six months on. All clients of the program must commit to staying for a minimum of six months and may stay as long as two years.
During Phase One, clients attend four to five AA or NA meetings per week, obtain a sponsor, participate in group and individual therapy, and look for employment. In Phase Two, clients continue to work through the 12-Steps and start employment once they secure a job.
During this phase, clients also form short and long-term goals with their counselors, may mentor newcomers to the program, and continue participating in all components of the Extra Mile program. Mentorship can be a useful method for improving accountability and is used in 63 of the state’s facilities. In Phase Three, clients continue to work through the same components of Phase Two.
Throughout treatment, clients will also receive individual counseling one time per week and attend an intensive group session once per week. Daily morning meditation groups are offered. Guest speakers and sober socials are planned.
Clients also receive advice and guidance on individual health and wellness plans to foster healing of the mind, body, and spirit. Attendance at church on Sunday mornings is mandatory, but clients may attend the church of their choice. Finally, clients receive regular, random drug and breath alcohol testing, which is a similar practice used in 32.6 percent of facilities within the state.
