ABOUT FAIRFIELD MEDICAL CENTER
The nonprofit Fairfield Medical Center (FMC) in Lancaster, Ohio, operates a substance abuse stabilization unit, which provides inpatient detoxification services to adults struggling with chemical dependency and withdrawal. The facility, which emphasizes a positive, individualized approach to addiction recovery, is one of just 17 hospital-based treatment facilities in Ohio to offer medical detox services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Patients can begin the intake process with a screening phone call, followed by on-site medical assessment. Crisis intervention services are also available via phone. Individuals not currently experiencing withdrawal may be referred to another treatment program. The unit is also unable to provide treatment to women who are pregnant or to individuals who have been hospitalized for psychosis in the previous six months, according to the facility's website.
During the stabilization process, patients are monitored 24/7 and receive medication. They also have access to chaplain services and music and pet therapies, which are available to all FMC inpatient clients.
The hospital also provides Narcan kits and training to address opioid dependency and overdoses. Clients with opioid use disorder may be able to receive medication assisted treatment (MAT), upon discharge. This positions FMC as one of only 23 Ohio facilities with a dedicated opioid treatment program. FMC communication highlights the facility's community partnerships, to which patients are referred for continuing addiction treatment after detoxification.
Treatment team members include doctors and nurses on the substance abuse unit and hospital-wide, as well as board certified music therapists with experience working with adults receiving addiction treatment. The one loved one surveyed at the time of this writing gave the facility three out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Fairfield Medical Center is a full-service community hospital, which hosts on-site holistic services including yoga and exercise classes, as well as an Alcoholics Anonymous group. Patients can use their personal electronic devices and all rooms have televisions and free Wi-Fi. Smoking is not allowed; however, replacement and cessation therapies are available.
