Areas of Specialization
Client & Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.
Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

ABOUT FAMILY CENTER FOR RECOVERY
Owned and operated by an addiction psychiatrist, Family Center for Recovery (FCFR) provides treatment for adults, expecting mothers, and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and mental health disorders. Based in Lantana, Fla., the dual diagnosis facility offers a continuum of rehabilitation services for clients, including detoxification services, residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), outpatient care (OP), and aftercare.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Along with detox services, medication assisted therapy is provided for those that need it. While many clients work on recovery from co-occurring addictions, some receive treatment solely for common mental health diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or PTSD.
All treatment programs integrate evidence-based psychological and medical therapies. In addition to individual, group, and family therapy sessions which apply modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, positive social reinforcement, and recreational therapies, FCFR offers virtual reality exposure therapy via sessions presented by Dr. Phil. Clients are encouraged to participate in 12-step meetings and additional wellness programs such as smoking cessation and nutrition counseling during advanced stages of outpatient rehab.
The facility’s founder is board-certified in addiction psychiatry, general psychiatry, and addiction medicine and has served as a medical faculty member at multiple universities. Several master’s level therapists also serve on the treatment staff.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Residents stay in a beautiful, resort-like building designed with cool, calming colors. Clients share a room, and commons areas are comfortably furnished, one room boasting a fussball table. Transitional living residences are reserved for pregnant and new mothers. FCFR clients participate in their communities beyond the facility. The center hosts family weekend programs and frequent alumni special events.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Data gathered by Rehabs.com from 15 alumni, loved ones, and employees surveyed at the time of this writing revealed very positive trends. Metrics measuring treatment effectiveness, the staff's level of training and experience, dual diagnosis treatment services, and the facility’s affordability each received average ratings of more than 4.5 out of five stars. All would strongly recommend the program.
Of four alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date, three identified the treatment team’s accessibility as a strength. Their opinions were split on the quality and availability of holistic therapy, exercise, and leisure opportunities, with ratings ranging from one to five stars. All other metrics, including those measuring accommodations, family participation, and counseling options received four or five stars.
Alum J.S. wrote that rehab was successful “probably because I saw my psychiatrist every day at FCFR, which never happened in the other centers.” Two alumni identified weaknesses in staff communication and individual therapy. One noted that the facility staff makes continuous adjustments to address client concerns. Alum J.D.K. wrote: "Communication between staff could be better, but adequate."
In the only negative review collected by Rehabs.com to date, alum Jay severely criticized the program, rating it one star in all categories and writing: "They push medications on people without giving any kind of information. The phones barely work. The food is cafeteria food that is in no way nutritious."
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com tended to agree with alumni reviews, rating the facility four and five out of five stars in similar metrics. D.S. wrote that FCFR was “success full treating duel diagnosis.” Another relative identified limited extracurricular activities as an area for improvement, but concluded positively, writing: “this facility was honest, straight forward and legitimate from the beginning.” Both reviewers rated opportunities for family participation highly.
WHAT STAFF SAY
Rehabs.com surveyed nine staff members to date, all of whom gave FCFR positive ratings of four to five out of five stars in fifteen different metrics except for holistic treatment offerings receiving a three-star average from five employees. Seven of the reviewers rated FCFR a perfect five stars in connectivity and visitor policy, family participation, and cleanliness.
Trends highlighted the program’s structure, research base, caring staff, and emphasis on family and education as strengths. Employee H.S. wrote: "It is the only facility in all Florida own and managed by an actual Psychiatrist. Most of the staff are addicts that have been clean for years now so they can relate to the patient and know exactly how to help. It is a dual diagnosis treatment facility."
FCFR accepts insurance plans.
