Family Center for Recovery Philosophy

The Family Center for Recovery takes the patients most treatment centers in the United States can’t. Why? We treat teens, pregnant women and adults for mental health and substance use disorders. Our founder Dr. Robert A. Moran is Board Certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine.Since 1993, Dr. Moran has dedicated his life to helping patients that nobody else would.

Areas of Specialization

  • Client & Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.

  • Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

ABOUT FAMILY CENTER FOR RECOVERY

Owned and operated by an addiction psychiatrist, Family Center for Recovery (FCFR) provides treatment for adults, expecting mothers, and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and mental health disorders. Based in Lantana, Fla., the dual diagnosis facility offers a continuum of rehabilitation services for clients, including detoxification services, residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), outpatient care (OP), and aftercare.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Along with detox services, medication assisted therapy is provided for those that need it. While many clients work on recovery from co-occurring addictions, some receive treatment solely for common mental health diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or PTSD.

All treatment programs integrate evidence-based psychological and medical therapies. In addition to individual, group, and family therapy sessions which apply modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, positive social reinforcement, and recreational therapies, FCFR offers virtual reality exposure therapy via sessions presented by Dr. Phil. Clients are encouraged to participate in 12-step meetings and additional wellness programs such as smoking cessation and nutrition counseling during advanced stages of outpatient rehab.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The facility’s founder is board-certified in addiction psychiatry, general psychiatry, and addiction medicine and has served as a medical faculty member at multiple universities. Several master’s level therapists also serve on the treatment staff.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Residents stay in a beautiful, resort-like building designed with cool, calming colors. Clients share a room, and commons areas are comfortably furnished, one room boasting a fussball table. Transitional living residences are reserved for pregnant and new mothers. FCFR clients participate in their communities beyond the facility. The center hosts family weekend programs and frequent alumni special events.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Data gathered by Rehabs.com from 15 alumni, loved ones, and employees surveyed at the time of this writing revealed very positive trends. Metrics measuring treatment effectiveness, the staff's level of training and experience, dual diagnosis treatment services, and the facility’s affordability each received average ratings of more than 4.5 out of five stars. All would strongly recommend the program.

Of four alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date, three identified the treatment team’s accessibility as a strength. Their opinions were split on the quality and availability of holistic therapy, exercise, and leisure opportunities, with ratings ranging from one to five stars. All other metrics, including those measuring accommodations, family participation, and counseling options received four or five stars.

Alum J.S. wrote that rehab was successful “probably because I saw my psychiatrist every day at FCFR, which never happened in the other centers.” Two alumni identified weaknesses in staff communication and individual therapy. One noted that the facility staff makes continuous adjustments to address client concerns. Alum J.D.K. wrote: "Communication between staff could be better, but adequate."

In the only negative review collected by Rehabs.com to date, alum Jay severely criticized the program, rating it one star in all categories and writing: "They push medications on people without giving any kind of information. The phones barely work. The food is cafeteria food that is in no way nutritious."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com tended to agree with alumni reviews, rating the facility four and five out of five stars in similar metrics. D.S. wrote that FCFR was “success full treating duel diagnosis.” Another relative identified limited extracurricular activities as an area for improvement, but concluded positively, writing: “this facility was honest, straight forward and legitimate from the beginning.” Both reviewers rated opportunities for family participation highly.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Rehabs.com surveyed nine staff members to date, all of whom gave FCFR positive ratings of four to five out of five stars in fifteen different metrics except for holistic treatment offerings receiving a three-star average from five employees. Seven of the reviewers rated FCFR a perfect five stars in connectivity and visitor policy, family participation, and cleanliness.

Trends highlighted the program’s structure, research base, caring staff, and emphasis on family and education as strengths. Employee H.S. wrote: "It is the only facility in all Florida own and managed by an actual Psychiatrist. Most of the staff are addicts that have been clean for years now so they can relate to the patient and know exactly how to help. It is a dual diagnosis treatment facility."

FINANCING

FCFR accepts insurance plans.

The director, is a rude and disrespectful person who should not be working in any kind of facility or in contact with humans. She told multiple people who were in recovery that they would relapse, instead of giving encouragement in a stressful and emotional time. They push medications on people without giving any kind of information. The phones barely work. The food is cafeteria food that is in no way nutritious.

Treatment for multiple addictions. Mental, and behavioral counseling. 12 step facilitation. Reintegration to normal life, such as, working, being responsible, and dealing with life's stress. Communication between staff could be better, but adequate. Being a graduate of the program, and and an employee for a total of 4 years, I recommend this facility to anyone who is suffering. I don't know of any other program that takes you from point A (hopeless), to point B (responsible adult) better than Family Center For Recovery.

The facility has a Psychiatrist/MD on site. He specializes in Addiction Medicine and all staff were qualified to treat us. More physical extracurricular activities added would have been a plus. Despite the crooks that tried to dishonestly provide treatment to my loved one in the past, this facility was honest, straight forward and legitimate from the beginning. I really trusted the billing staff and the admission process and they kept their word. I'm grateful, as my loved one is now successfully at an OP level thriving and making strides on to good mental health.

Up to date with current medical literature and high ratio of staff-to-patient. The evidence based practice medicine is unlike any other rehabilitation facility. To add to that, the faculty truly provides the care patients need, while supporting their families that are a crucial part in the recovery process. Patients are treated on an individual and case based method and are able to obtain treatment for both addiction and mental illnesses. Family Center for Recovery is the model for what all treatment centers should be.

Operated on a medical model, recognizing that addiction is a brain disease, the treatment of which should be overseen by an addiction psychiatrist. Can't think of any. This facility provides a comprehensive assessment of what the individual is experiencing. Additional psychiatric illnesses are identified, such as mood or anxiety disorders, and treated very thoroughly. This facility goes beyond treating symptoms and helps the individual get back on a healthy developmental pathway toward the achievement of responsible, independent adulthood.

It is the only facility in all Florida own and managed by an actual Psychiatrist. Most of the staff are addicts that have been clean for years now so they can relate to the patient and know exactly how to help. It is a dual diagnosis treatment facility. Could use some more recognition. Treatment Centers in Florida are regulated by the Department of Children and Family and they have no idea how to deal with Addiction or Mental Illness so most of their regulations are simply absurd Dont doubt in calling. There are so many Treatment Facilities in Florida that are just a scam and Family Center for Recovery is the only one that really focus in helping the patient and their loved ones.

- Joint Commission Accreditation - ACHA License allows FCFR to treat primary mental health - It is run by a triple-board-certified neuro-psychiatrist who is also certified in addiction psychiatry (the only treatment facility in FL owned and operated by an addiction psychiatrist). - The treatment team includes medical professionals, licensed therapists, medical students, nurse practitioners and more. The treatment is in the hands of professionals, unlike most treatment centers where the Doctor rarely sees the patients, if they even have a Doctor on staff in the first place. - The Comprehensive nature of the program takes a patient through all levels of care, guiding them to a real life with a job, housing, sober supports, and family. - Honestly, every day FCFR adjusts to the needs of the patients and intervenes with the most appropriate therapeutic intervention at any given time, therefore any "would be weakness" is quickly transformed into a positive learning experience for the patient. Overall, it took me just under a year to get a solid foundation of recovery and to begin having healthy relationships with my family and friends. The wait was worth it, as 30 - 90 day programs had never worked for me before. All throughout my journey at FCFR I kept saying, “I hate this place, I want to go home, the staff sucks and they don’t know me etc…” The thing is, that was my diseased brain. The Family Center for Recovery was able to analyze and understand my behaviors in order to provide me the best treatment possible (probably because I saw my psychiatrist and therapist every day at FCFR, which never happened in the other centers). Even though each patient is different, the ability of the treatment team at FCFR to understand the illness remains the same. Individual treatment plans are provided based on the specific diagnosis and behavior that the patient displays. They even help patients find jobs, build resumes, do interview prep, and much more to reintegrate patients into the real world. In the end, FCFR was the first place that truly understood my behavior and was able to see through the BS. Incredible. By the way, I could not have done any of this if it weren’t for my family, and their commitment to their recovery program as well. While your loved one recovers, it is crucial that you recover as well. They attended Family Weekends, participated on the support calls, and were a perfect addition to the FCFR treatment team. Without their participation and understanding of the illness (thanks to FCFR education and support), there is no chance I would be here today. Bottom line is, that FCFR is unlike any traditional treatment center. It is run by medical professionals that will stop at nothing to get you well, regardless of how anyone views them. Yes, sometimes the patient and/or the family may disagree with a recommendation, but there is ALWAYS a therapeutic value behind each decision. For patients and families who truly want to turn their lives around, there is no better choice than Family Center for Recovery. If you bring an open-mind, FCFR will bring you recovery.

Truly caring for the patients and letting clinical decisions not financial dictate patient care. Too few patients to treat with the best care possible. This facility is where you should send your loved one/self if you truly want to recover from whatever mental illness you may need to recover from. From addiction to Bipolar the staff is trained to help you recover. We are not a dual diagnosis in name only we use evidence based treatment to care for our patients keeping up with the latest proven therapy.
