ABOUT FAMILY RECOVERY CENTER -- LISBON, OH

Dedicated to “Making Recovery a Reality,” Family Recovery Center, located in Lisbon, Ohio, offers a range of outpatient treatment options for children, adolescents, and adults struggling with substance abuse and/or mental health concerns. Along with three recovery homes for men, the organization also operates the Fleming House in Lisbon, Ohio, which is designed for homeless, recovering women with children. Within the state, Family Recovery Center is among 77.3 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities that are private nonprofit organizations.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Family Recovery Center takes a holistic approach to treatment, addressing the physical, psychological, interpersonal, spiritual, and financial effects of substance abuse or mental illness on the individual and their loved ones. As such, the rehab treats clients who are struggling with co-occurring disorders, which places it among 47.9 percent in the state with programs for clients with co-occurring disorders.

The process for outpatient treatment begins with a phone screen to schedule a first appointment. During the initial visit, a licensed counselor will complete a comprehensive assessment to determine the needs of the individual and create a treatment plan.

Several treatment options are available to assist clients at Family Recovery Center. The intensive outpatient program (IOP) is for those struggling with drug or alcohol dependence and a requirement for clients receiving treatment for opioid dependence. Clients attend 30 sessions of three-hours each, three times per week. The facility also offers low intensity treatment groups that address such topics as skill development, parenting, nutrition, and money management. Other group treatment options address relapse prevention, aftercare, multiple offender prevention, family support, and more.

Family Recovery Center offers a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program to help relieve withdrawal symptoms for those struggling with opioid dependency. To be admitted to this program, clients undergo several assessments with a licensed professional to determine their needs. Afterwards, clients meet regularly with a medical doctor to discuss administration of medication, progress, and ongoing services.

Throughout the MAT process, clients engage in evidence-based counseling while receiving Suboxone, Naltrexone, methadone, or Vivitrol injections. Within Ohio, Family Recovery Center is among 4.6 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities that prescribe methadone, 37.9 percent that prescribe Suboxone, and among 41.1 percent that use Vivitrol.

In addition, Family Recovery Center operates the Fleming House. Women with children may stay for up to 18 months. During this time, women participate in 12-step fellowship and attend classes on relapse prevention, parenting, anger management, self esteem, codependency, and life skills. The program also offers case management, vocational development or schooling, aftercare.

Prevention services to the community include school-based programs, traffic safety, youth leadership, and an alcohol and drug abuse prevention coalition. A 72-hour overnight driver intervention program is offered for first-time OVI (operating vehicle under influence) offenders.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Family Recovery Center is licensed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Within Ohio, it is among 52.8 percent of substance abuse facilities accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The multidisciplinary treatment team includes medical doctors, licensed counselors, and others.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of the writing, the one former client polled by Rehabs.com submitted positive impressions of Family Recovery Center. B.C.H. awarded perfect five stars for counseling options, likelihood to recommend, staff experience and training, and treatment of co-occurring disorders. They gave four stars for the inclusion of 12-step practices, affordability, facility cleanliness and upkeep, family participation, and holistic offerings. Highlighting the “caring, supportive staff” as a strength, they wrote, “Helped change my life when I didn’t know how.”

On secondary site Google, the rehab received moderate coverage, on average to date: three out of five stars based on seven reviews. [1] Ratings spanned the scale with several settling at the midpoint. Of the total, only one reviewer left commentary with their rating, which happened to be one out of five stars. “Their group therapy mixes those who are court ordered and still glorifying addiction with those who have a bit of clean time and need some stability," the reviewer wrote.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date offered moderately favorable views about the facility. This reviewer gave five stars for family participation, staff experience and training, and treatment of co-occurring disorders. According to this loved one’s opinion, other metrics merited three stars, such as counseling options, facility cleanliness and upkeep, and likelihood to recommend. Two others received a negative two-star rating, namely connectivity/visitor policy and holistic offerings. Although the reviewer cited “addiction counseling” as a strength, they felt that the center was “too restrictive.” They wanted Rehabs.com to know: “I think next time if rehab is needed, I would do more research and look for a more holistic facility.”

FINANCING

At the time of this writing, Family Recovery Center does not provide information online regarding its costs, however, it indicates it accepts donations to help fund its programs. The MAT program offers a sliding scale for fees and accepts Medicaid and most insurances. For the Fleming House, rent is set at 30 percent of the family’s income. Income will be reviewed, once stabilized. A deposit of $350 is also required.

Addiction counseling. Too restrictive. I think next time if rehab is needed, I would do more research and look for a more holistic facility.
