Founded in 1993 and located in Cincinnati, Ohio, First Step Home is one of the 71 (17.4 percent) of Ohio facilities that provides residential treatment. It also offers outpatient treatment and sober living options to new mothers and pregnant women seeking freedom from drug and alcohol addiction. The center exists to help “women break the cycle of addiction and abuse so that they can become self-sufficient and provide safe and nurturing environment for their children.”

According to First Step Home's website, programming begins with an assessment process to help treatment staff develop an appropriate course of treatment. Women typically complete the residential program in 30 days.

Following their time in residential care, women progress into transitional living and continue receiving treatment in an outpatient setting. Each week, program participants meet with their assigned counselor and attend 12-step meetings and group therapy, the latter of which helps women develop effective coping skills.

For women with children under the age of 12, there is an on-site childcare program that runs during groups and meetings. Women are joined with their children during lunch, every evening, and overnight. It is among the 12 percent of Ohio facilities to offer child care for the children of clients.

The guiding principles for First Step Home are evidence-based practices, a comprehensive recovery continuum, and services that are client-centered. Additional treatments offered here include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), trauma-informed services, parenting classes, nutrition education, addiction education, family support groups, in-home support for newborns, job placement assistance, and opportunities for peer mentorship.

The center also offers access to primary health care, mental health services, prenatal care, and pediatric and family health care.

Designed for women w/children and family. Transitional housing options. I was ready to get treatment by the time I got to First Step. Anyone can get treatment but if they are not open and willing to do whatever the facility requires, they won't succeed. First Step gave me structure and discipline, guided me in the right direction when I needed it.

They focus on more than just recovery. They also help you with job training, how to properly act at a job interview, provide clothing for interviews and teach u how to approach your criminal record at a interview. They also help put you on the path to having your own apartment. They help you achieve your ged also. They allow your children to live with you if they are under the age of 12 but if it's cold out , snowing or raining they don't help with transportation you have to walk and a lot of women have newborn babies also They have to take in the cold. I feel during cold weather they could give kids rides to school/daycare. I love the facility bc they help with more than getting clean which we need bc recovery isn't just about getting clean it's about living life better in EVERY WAY
