Areas of Specialization
Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family membersto understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.
Client and Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.
Dual diagnosis and Co-occuring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.
Some facilities have an addictiontreatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.
When I was at my darkest point in my life, I picked up the phone and put my faith in the people at Footprints. The counselors, technicians, and directors at Footprints are some of the most dedicated and non- judgemental individuals that I have met throughout my recovery process. They gave me the positive support that I needed to pick myself back up, but were never afraid to show me tough love when I needed that too
Footprints saved my life. I had never been to a rehab before and really didn't know what to expect but from stories from the other clients I knew I was in a special place. From my first day staff took time out of their day to make sure I was doing okay. I wasn’t used to people doing that, and that was just the beginning. I was a completely different person when I walked through those doors then the man I am today. Id argue every topic, comment, and anything in between. But each day staff never gave up on me, through bumps and bruises, I found who I was suppose to be. More than anything my counselor Stephanie never gave up hope. She truly cared about my well being, helping me through some of my darkest times and uncovering things I never knew existed in me. She was there the whole way, caring about me until I could care for myself. As far as the other staff I cannot say enough. They always know how to handle every situation and always seem to say the right things. There isn't one staff member I cant say I don't love to be around and don't feel comfortable talking to. I have been here for roughly 6 months and I can truly say without Footprints I would not be alive today. I am so grateful for having the chance to come here, It’s my home. I love this place and I would recommend Footprints to anyone who wants help and wants to live life. Today I am the best person I can be. I’m happy, joyous, and free and I owe it all to Footprints.
