ABOUT FOUR COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER - INDEPENDENCE NORTH OFFICE
Offering multiple locations in the township of Independence, Kan., including an office on West Main Street, Four County Mental Health Center provides outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment for adults. It is one of Kansas’ 104 facilities to provide outpatient-based mental health services and 170 facilities to provide outpatient substance abuse services. Detox is not available on site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The treatment process at Four County Mental Health Center (FCMHC) begins with a comprehensive assessment upon admission to determine the appropriate level of care and form individualized treatment plans. FCMHC follows the disease model of addiction and plans treatments accordingly. While each plan is different, family involvements is a key component of every plan.
The facility promotes family involvement where possible, even offering services and events for families to participate in as a part of the treatment process. Family counseling is made available in 66 percent of U.S. treatment facilities.
The Center uses a range of evidence-based treatment methods. Individual counseling and group therapy are standard components of every treatment program. It also offers specialized treatments focusing on common issues like anger management.
FCMHC employs a team of certified and licensed counselors in a range of fields. Family and substance abuse counselors work with clients. The facility is a large, one-story brick building that has larger rooms for group meeting as well as private offices for small group and individual counseling sessions.
The one alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility three out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience, while the one loved one polled gave the facility four stars for its staff's level of training and experience and noted: "Some staff aren't as helpful but overall it's a good treatment center."

The one former client surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the center's Independence North Office mostly positive feedback, awarding it four and five out of five stars respectively for its treatment effectiveness and its treatment of co-occurring disorders. They gave the facility just three stars for its cleanliness, its counseling options, and its faith-based treatment. When asked, on a scale from one to five, if they would recommend the facility, the anonymous alum gave a rating of five.

The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the Independence North Office a positive review. They said they would "definitely recommend" the program and gave it four or five stars across almost all evaluated metrics, including treatment effectiveness, family participation, counseling options, and treatment of co-occurring disorders. "My brother had a great experience with the facility they really help and understand what your going through to help your needs and to get your clean," they wrote.
WHAT STAFF SAY
On Indeed, Four County Counseling Center earned an average rating of three out of five stars from 45 reviews to date. While some employees indicated that the job “did not pay well for the work being done,” and a “stuffy environment,” one former employee described the environment as “a few bad apples that ruin the good people that work there.” The current and former employees expressed genuine satisfaction in being able to help clients, indicating that they received many “moral rewards.”
FCMHC accepts most private insurance plans. It is also among the 35 percent of U.S. facilities to accept Medicare and 64 percent of U.S. facilities to accept Medicaid. Sliding fee scales are available to clients who qualify. The one loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Four County Mental Health Center five out of five stars for its affordability.
FCMHC underwent significant changes n January of 2018. The facility partnered with the city to expand its services across the region, including opening a new facility that partners with St. John’s Hospital. This expansion would allow the facility to offer additional services, such as referrals for detox services.
