ABOUT GLENWOOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH UNIT

Located in West Monroe of northern La., Glenwood Regional Medical Center offers a 24-bed inpatient program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults struggling with chemical dependency, psychiatric disorders, or co-occurring concerns. Typically, hospital-based treatment programs are equipped to provide medical detoxification services, and Glenwood also offers a specialized program for seniors.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To form a personalized course of treatment, patients first undergo an initial psychiatric and, if applicable, substance abuse assessment. Along with behavioral health treatment for chemical dependency, Glenwood provides comprehensive programming to treat mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorders. If a patient requires stabilization, they may be referred to the hospital’s inpatient program.

To stabilize patients, the medical center blends pharmacological intervention with evidence-based treatment approaches. According to the facility’s website, inpatient care focuses on stress reduction and increasing coping skills. To learn new coping skills and increase self-awareness, patients participate in a structured schedule of individual, group, and family therapy sessions, as well as therapeutic and enriching activities.

The goal of inpatient care is to stabilize the patient and refer them to a less-intensive level of care. In some cases, patients may be referred to the hospital’s outpatient-based programs once stabilized. During PHP and IOP, patients continue to attend counseling sessions while receiving ongoing medication management. The facility also provides comprehensive discharge planning, which may include referrals to vocational training, supportive housing, and community-based resources.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Glenwood Regional Medical Center employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of psychiatrists, physicians, social workers, and therapists experienced in substance abuse and mental health, along with specialized nurses.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

During inpatient treatment, patients are constantly monitored and have access to medical and nursing attention 24 hours a day. The medical center’s behavioral health unit can accommodate up to 24 patients. As a hospital-based program, patients can expect a clinical yet comfortable and sanitary environment.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two former patients polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing were overall critical of the facility, though both survey respondents did appreciate the quality of the food. Out of five stars, the alumni gave ratings of two stars and three stars for the treatment staff’s level of experience and training. Although reporting five years of sobriety once discharged from the program, alum Robert gave one star for the effectiveness of individual counseling and three stars for the quality of group counseling.

The other alum offered two-star ratings for the level of family participation and the facility’s ability in treating co-occurring disorders. “They offered no exercise program, had one group counseling a day,” the alum wrote, adding: “It was like that all 4 full days I was there. Terrible, terrible!!!!” However, the alum did award a perfect five-star rating for the facility’s cleanliness and upkeep.

Secondary sources also criticized many areas of the facility. Although reviewing the entire hospital, rather than the Behavioral Health Unit, 55 individuals on Google reviews gave the facility an average rating of 2.5 out of five stars.[1] Dissatisfied reviewers tended to criticize the attitude of staff and the cleanliness of the medical center.

FINANCING

According to its website, Glenwood Regional Medical Center accepts most major private insurance plans, as well as Medicaid and Medicare.

its clean, that's all. Overhead head psychologist asked employee how much longer insurance would pay, so she kept the patient longer than needed for extra money! People voluntarily checked themselves in like myself was only diagnosed with depression would not allow me rights to check myself out because they wanted more money from insurance. They offered no exercise program, had one group counseling a day, only hour long and half the group did not have time to talk about problems in life because hour was over. It was like that all 4 full days I was there. Terrible, terrible!!!!

One staff member... lies about everything Hope by the Sea claims to provide.

The services provided by the staff were very professional and in tune to the needs of their clients. My wife's Primary counselor...provided the guidance and structure needed to help in her recovery. The Program director has a hands on approach that made me feel secure that my wife was in the best possible place she could be. The 12 Step based program along with workshops, one on ones, therapist sessions , nutrition, art, music, health & fitness and much more has turned her life around. I also liked the fact of the Family workshops provided so I could to be involved with her needs. Thank You !!
