For more than 100 years, Good Samaritan Hospital has provided healthcare services to the populations of southwestern Indiana and southeastern Illinois. Its behavioral health division, The Samaritan Center, provides comprehensive mental health and addiction services to clients of all ages. A variety of programs are available, including treatment for alcohol and substance abuse, eating disorders, marital problems, gambling addiction, and co-occurring mental health issues. The facility offers a range of treatment intensities, including 24-hour emergency services, residential services, partial hospitalization (PHP), and outpatient services (OP). Detox is not available on site.


The treatment process at Good Samaritan Hospital begins with an assessment by clinical staff to determine the right method of care. Clients can meet with admissions and medical staff 24/7. Clients can be admitted to a wide range of services based on the results of the assessment.

While little information about the facility’s methods is provided, the facility does treat many different substance abuse and mental health conditions. The focus of care is to create an environment where clients can explore their conditions with guided help, and apply appropriate methods to address problem behaviors. Clinical staff members are on hand to help manage treatments, and therapists are available to guide treatment therapies.

Clients enter partial hospitalization or outpatient programs and participate in group, individual, and family/marital therapy. Psychological testing and medication management are used to facilitate more effective treatment practices. Clients also participate in educational programs and community workshops.


The treatment team at Good Samaritan Hospital is led by three psychiatrists and two child psychiatrists. Licensed nurses, therapists, social workers, and clinicians are on hand to help with treatment practices. The sole individual polled to date by rated staff’s level of experience and training a perfect five stars.


The overall facility contains 232 beds, although how many of those are dedicated to addiction and mental health services is unclear. The facility is clinical throughout. In some cases, meals may be provided. However, there is a cafeteria on site for the general public.


While has yet to receive feedback from alumni of Good Samaritan, 36 reviewers to date on Google rated the overall hospital an average 3.4 out of five stars, with 24 positive reviews and 12 decidedly negative reviews. [1]

Positive comments described the staff as compassionate, professional, and friendly, but negative reviews described anecdotes of misdiagnosis among other complaints. In more recent months, feedback has become more negative. Lucas called the nurses “rude” and the doctors “worthless.” Lindsey agreed that the nurses were “rude”.


The sole loved one of a former client surveyed by at the time of this writing shared a generally positive review and gave a rating of four out of five stars when polled if they would recommend the facility.

The loved one gave five out of five stars for meals and nutrition, exercise and leisure opportunities, connectivity, family participation, and staff experience.

“Very nice people,” the loved one wrote. However, the loved one also felt one weakness of the facility was a lack of good doctors, and only gave the hospital three out of five stars on its ability to treat co-occurring disorders.
