About Harmony Place

Reviewed by Our Contributors

Located on a leafy residential street in the affluent neighborhood of Woodland Hills, northwest of Los Angeles, Harmony Place provides residential treatment to adults struggling with substance use disorders. The rehab is one of 200 non-hospital facilities in California to provide medically monitored detox services (including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opiate dependence), which make up just 14% of all facilities in the state. Outpatient programs, transitional living, and other aftercare options are also offered.

Harmony Place prides itself on offering extensive individual counseling (three sessions a week), a range of evidence-based therapies, a select offering of holistic treatments, and 12-step facilitation. Most residential stays last 30 days.

In addition to dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a modality utilized by 47% of all treatment facilities in California, treatment practices include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodrama, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and motivational enhancement therapy (MET). Holistic activities include chiropractic and acupuncture treatments, equine therapy, massage therapy, and yoga. There is also specialized pain management course for individuals dealing with chronic pain, as well as groups for clients struggling with co-occurring disorders.

Outpatient options, which are offered at a nearby facility, include a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and general outpatient care (OP). Clients may couple these programs with Harmony Place's transitional living services. Once they complete treatment, clients can participate in weekly alumni meetings facilitated by a therapist.

Harmony Place's treatment team includes physicians, nurses, and master's level therapists, along with licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and certified alcohol and drug counselors. The single individual surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing — an employee — gave harmony place just one out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

Harmony Place is an intimate center, accommodating just 12 clients at a time in gender-separate quarters; both private and shared rooms are available. Residents live in an upscale mock Tudor mansion with an outdoor swimming pool, a wood-paneled library, a computer lab, and a lounge with a fireplace. The one individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility three out of five stars for its accommodations, its meals, and its exercise/leisure offerings, and two stars for its cleanliness.

While Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, feedback on secondary sites were mostly positive. Harmony Place earned average ratings of four out of five stars based on 13 Yelp reviews [1], 4.2 out of five stars based on 13 Google reviews[2] (five of which were "unrecommended"), and 4.8 out of five stars based on five Facebook reviews (which the facility has the ability to edit).

Most former clients described Harmony Place as an effective residential rehab program with attractive grounds, a multitude of amenities, and dedicated and compassionate staff. "The amenities are top notch and the actual staff involved in rehabilitation services are mind blowing," Mohammad told Google in a representative review. "The Dr's, Nurses, Chef, and other staff are absolutely AMAZING. Including the CEO."

The one staffer surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, gave Harmony Place negative feedback. In addition to claiming that the facility was only interested in making a profit, they awarded the rehab just one or two out of five stars for its counseling options, its treatment of co-occurring disorders, its 12-step facilitation, and its holistic offerings.

Of the four current and former staff members who evaluated the Woodland Hills facility on Indeed[4], two gave it positive feedback and two gave it negative feedback. The satisfied staffers — a residential advisor and a personal assistant — described the facility as comfortable and group-oriented. The two negative reviewers — a primary therapist and a general clinician — felt that the program was unstructured and that management was money-hungry.

According to the facility's website, Harmony Place accepts all PPO insurance plans, and some HMOs and EPOs. The one individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility two out five stars for its affordability.

Location is convenient. The ownership is not interested in helping clients they are only interested in making money. They have put clients at risk and in harm's way with little to no concern for the outcome. They treat their staff unfairly further causing the clients more stress or putting them at risk due to the staff members not being attentive or walking out during their shifts. This is not somewhere a person would want to place a loved one or go to themself if they are truly looking for help. Be very careful when selecting somewhere for yourself or for the person you love to be treated for addiction. If you want to truly make an informed decision you should look for someone who is a success story that has been clean and sober for a number of years and can honestly say it is because of a particular treatment center. Harmony Place cannot boast such claims, they indeed are not what they appear to be. Drug addiction is a very precarious situation and must be dealt with licensed therapist and not interns. Ask around about this facility and make a well informed decision.
