About the Facility
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.
Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.

ABOUT HEALTH RECOVERY SERVICES — BASSETT HOUSE
Part of Health Recovery Services, a private nonprofit organization that runs 12 outpatient and residential rehab facilities in Ohio, Bassett House offers residential treatment for young men ages 13 to 18 who are struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. It is one of the only 127 (31.3 percent) treatment centers in the state with specifically-tailored programming for this adolescent age group.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Each incoming client goes through a comprehensive evaluation that takes account of mental health diagnoses, personal strengths, and possible barriers to treatment. An individualized assessment plan is created to help guide each client’s treatment process.
Treatments focus on using a bio-psychosocial model of therapy. Strengths-based therapy and family-focused counseling are a big part of the treatment process. As a result, families are encouraged to be a part of the recovery process. Bassett House also provides an on-campus school program that is designed to meet the educational needs of the youth during their stay.
All treatment programs are built around group counseling, with several sessions held daily, some of them gender-specific. There’s also individual counseling two to three times a week paired with family counseling sessions. Psychoeducation courses about the nature of addiction, relapse prevention training, and recreation therapy are included to promote a well rounded recovery. Clients are strongly encouraged to participate in 12-step programming as well.
Aftercare planning forms an important part of treatment, and clients and their parents help to draw up a realistic plan that includes referrals to local 12-step groups. Clients are also expected to check in for weekly progress reports and case reviews after completing the program. Bassett House also offers a 14- to 21-day relapse program.
According to the facility’s website, Bassett House’s treatment team includes a full medical team — though details of credentials are not specified — as well as psychologists, counselors, and state-certified teachers. Their staff also includes OhioMHAS credentialed clinicians and experienced case managers. Recreation counselors and specific activity leaders may also be on-site to help with sober living education. In Ohio, all substance abuse treatment facilities have continuing education requirements for staff.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Bassett House’s location covers 40 acres, though Health Recovery Services does not publish photographs of Bassett House online.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com had yet to receive reviews from former clients of this facility. On CiteHealth, however, the facility received ratings of two stars and three out of five stars from two reviews. As one anonymous alumni wrote: “There are definitely staff members who care and put client care first. Overall however, the agency lacks what it takes to put client care above profit.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Reports from loved ones on Rehabs.com to date are polarized. When surveyed, on a scale from one to five, whether they would recommend treatment at Bassett House, the six reviewers to date gave feedback ranging from one to five out of five stars.
Generally, reviewers gave higher ratings in treatment effectiveness, which received two four- and two five-star ratings, but also a one-star rating. Loved one L.D. wrote kindly of Bassett House’s art program: “I love the art program. While my child was there, they learned to crochet (boys and girls, both).”
Another anonymous loved one of a former client gave positive feedback for the facility as well, providing four-star ratings for most categories, including holistic offerings, admissions and discharge procedures, staff level of experience and training, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. Contrastingly, loved one G.C. felt “it was very poorly run,” without leaving further ratings or commentary.
According to its website, Bassett House accepts most insurance plans and Medicaid.

GCMy loved one was at this facility and it was very poorly run.
StephanieMy daughter was on the verge of death. The courts sent her to Bassett House! She was there for just over 60 days! She is a different person now! I am so thankful for this program! She even cried when she left!
Kathythe state of OH paid 20,000.00 for nothing!!!
Anonymousit was effective but small. my mother was in.
AnonymousMy daughter left the basset House with the tools to make better choices in her life.
LDMy child stayed at Bassett House. They had stayed at several other places before. There is no doubt this is an excellent facility. It\'s the only one that helped them. The program is rigid but fair. It also involves comprehensive care including many different groups. I love the art program. While my child was there, they learned to crochet (boys and girls, both). My child crocheted during group and it was relaxing for them. My child also cam away from Bassett with a new attitude and renewed hope for the future. We spent many years trying to get them help. Bassett House was the place where my child found themselves and was healed!
