Hebron Colony Ministries Philosophy
Nestled amidst North Carolina’s majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, Hebron Colony Ministries is one of the oldest and most established residential treatment centers for chemically-dependent men struggling with substance abuse. Hebron Colony operates under the belief that addiction is an affliction that is physical, mental, and spiritual in nature, and it is through the word of Christ that individuals may be restored to achieve their full potential. Students battling addiction are invited to attend Hebron Colony free of charge for up to ten weeks, during which time they will be provided food, shelter, addiction counseling, scripture-based education, and more.
Areas of Specialization
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

ABOUT HEBRON COLONY MINISTRIES
Hebron Colony Ministries –– located in the small town of Boone in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina –– offers residential substance abuse treatment for men. As the name suggests, treatment is Christian-based. Medical detox is not available on-site, and clients must be detoxed of all substances prior to admission as well as be physically capable of performing daily tasks. Hebron Colony also operates a facility for women, called Grace Home, which is located more than 200 miles away in Santee, S.C.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility’s website, the wait for admission is typically eight to 10 weeks. Once admitted, the treatment program lasts 10 weeks and is based on scriptural principles set forth in the Bible.
The facility’s website states that rather than treating addiction as a disease, the organization views addiction as a symptom of deeper problems including shame, guilt, and sin. “This approach is designed to help a person realize that God loves them, that we need His forgiveness, and he or she can have a bondage-breaking, life-restoring, personal relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ,” the website notes.
The program’s main treatment activities include Bible study, small group discussions, and individual counseling with pastors and staff.
The treatment team is primarily made up of pastors and ministers. There are no medical professionals on staff, according to the facility’s website.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The facility houses up to 39 residents and is modeled after a mountain retreat. The center’s website notes there is an on-site chapel and a large porch. Smoking is permitted in designated areas, but cell phones are forbidden.
