ABOUT HELEN ROSS MCNABB CENTER
Founded in 1948 and located in Knoxville, Tenn., the Helen Ross McNabb Center provides services to adolescents, children, and adults who are struggling with chemical dependency, psychiatric disorders, or co-occurring disorders. If necessary, medical detoxification is available through CenterPointe, the adult residential program for chemical dependency.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility's website, Helen Ross McNabb Center operates two residential programs for chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders — CenterPointe and the Katie Miller Residential Center for adolescents (ages 13 to 18). Helen Ross McNabb Center also operates adolescent facilities in Morristown and Louisville, Tenn. If applicable, the detoxification process at CenterPointe typically lasts between six and 12 days.
CenterPointe is a 21- to 28-day program that utilizes evidence-based treatment modalities to “educate, inform and provide substance abuse treatment in a group format with some individual sessions,” according to the program’s website.
The approach at the Katie Miller Residential Center also incorporates adventure-based programming, on-site schooling, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and family therapy into its treatment curriculum.
If residential treatment is not required, Helen Ross McNabb Center provides a number of gender-specific intensive outpatient programs. The program, which combines substance abuse education and group counseling, meets between nine and 12 hours per week. Psychiatric outpatient services are available to all ages and include medication management, one-on-one counseling, and ongoing case management.
The center's website indicates Helen Ross McNabb Center is a CARF-accredited treatment provider, and employs a team of psychiatrists, nurses, licensed professional counselors, clinical therapists, case managers, and a support staff.
