ABOUT HIAWATHA VALLEY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER

One of just 151 (42.4 percent) nonprofit organizations in the state of Minnesota, Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center (HVMHC) serves children, teens, couples, and families struggling with substance use and mental health disorders across five locations. Established more than 50 years ago in 1965, HVMHC is Winona is host to a medication clinic and offers outpatient counseling, psychological assessments and medication evaluations to residents of five different counties.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The medication clinic in Winona is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and for an additional 90 minutes on Tuesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional services available here include diagnostic assessments and medication management for children, teens, and adults. Depending on a client’s specific needs, outpatient counseling may take place in a combination of one-on-one, group, and family settings. The center is one of just 191 (53.7 percent) facilities in the state that works directly with couples

HVMHC also provides screenings and assessments for individuals seeking long-term recovery from substance abuse. These assessments are simultaneously equipped to address co-occurring mental health disorders. Community support services, including rehabilitative and targeted case management services, are geared towards individuals seeking to develop their “social competencies” and independent living skills. To gain access to these needed medical, social, educational, and vocational services, participants must be 18 years of age or older, be eligible for Minnesota Health Care Programs, and come referred to HVMHC by their respective counties.

Those sharing written commentary in addition to a star-rating described the staff as helpful and understanding, though one disagreed, calling center staff "extremely condescending.”[1][2]
