About the Facility

Reviewed by Our Contributors

Established in 2004, Highview Center is a group of advanced-degreed private practitioners offering outpatient-based, holistic-oriented mental health care. Located in Middletown, Ohio, Highview Center also specializes in treating individuals struggling with substance abuse disorders. Treatment is available to adolescents, adults, and families.

According to the Highview Center website, whole-person wellness is a priority. At the beginning of a treatment program, each client submits a medical questionnaire that the clinic’s mental health practitioners use to establish a plan that includes collaboration with other health care providers. Depending on the specific concern, the individual may be referred to the appropriate specialist.

One of Highview’s eight therapists specializes in addiction and substance abuse treatment. This is one among more than a dozen conditions addressed at the center. The facility also specializes in treating bipolar disorder, trauma, grief, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and school behavioral challenges.

Among the treatment modalities practiced are reflexology, aromatherapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), mindfulness, anger management training, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to address trauma-related concerns. Treatment approaches are generally providing on an individual or in a family/couples setting, depending on the condition. The facility also offers spiritual group counseling and Bible studies.

Each of the eight practitioners listed on the Highview Center website holds a master’s or doctorate degree. The one specializing in substance abuse treatment is a certified chemical dependency counselor and licensed psychologist. Some therapists' bios, including the addiction specialist, note their religious identity as Christian, indicating its influence in their treatment approaches. Another practitioner is a clinically certified reflexologist, with training in nutrition and aromatherapy. Other areas of specialization include spiritual counseling, employee assistance program (EAP) services, working with children and families, and addressing chronic pain.
