Rehabs.com 360 Guide

Review by Rehabs.com Contributors

Nova Recovery Center operates an array of Texas drug and alcohol rehab facilities. This 90-day residential center on 25 acres south of Austin specializes in treatment for adult men and women who struggle with chronic relapse. Clients enjoy luxury accommodations and participate in gender-separate clinical and holistic care.

Nova’s three detox facilities are located in nearby Buda at Hill Country Detox, and in Austin and Houston Heights. Outpatient treatment is also available in Austin and Houston, along with sober living programming through Eudaimonia Recovery Homes.

Admission to Wimberley's long-term rehab program at Nova Recovery Center begins with a phone assessment, followed by an on-site medical exam. After a client has completed any necessary detox services, they begin a highly personalized, “fluid” treatment plan that is adjusted to meet their needs throughout the 90-day program.

Plans typically incorporate 12-step principles and practices with individual and group-based psychotherapy, physical fitness, and experiential therapy. Clients also participate in Brene Brown’s shame- and courage-oriented Daring Way curriculum. Representative treatment modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive behavior therapy, and contingency management; art, music, and pet therapy; trauma-informed eye movement desensitization and reprocessing; and education.

Families are encouraged to participate in a three-day program.

Following residential rehab at Wimberley, Nova recommends that its clients enroll in the organization’s full continuum of care, progressing through intensive outpatient (IOP) and aftercare programs at the organization’s other locations. Addiction monitoring is also available.

The Nova Recovery Center treatment team includes a board-certified psychiatrist, a consulting board-certified addictionologist, master’s-level therapists, nurses, and certified Daring Way and alcohol and drug addiction counselors.

Nova Recovery Center’s secluded Wimberly setting features gender-separate cottages, an outdoor swimming pool, and basketball and volleyball courts. Clients each work with a personal trainer on staff and follow a five-day-per-week exercise plan. Off-site outings include bowling and movies.

Visitation is scheduled on Sundays. Residents may not access personal electronic devices.

The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave a positive review. Alum Keith wrote that Nova was the best of the many rehab centers he had attended, concluding: “The staff really cared about my well being.”

On Google, feedback for Nova Recovery Center’s Wimberley residential facility was unanimously favorable, represented by eight maximum ratings of five stars. Two alumni echoed the sentiment Keith also posted that Nova treatment was life-changing and three characterized staff as caring and committed. Reviewers also highlighted the positive employment and relationship outcomes they achieved in recovery.[1]

The center’s official Facebook page, which its staff may monitor, had 61 ratings at the time of this writing. Just one included written commentary, but 72% provided five out of five stars, while five granted only one or two stars.[2]

The one loved one to submit feedback for Nova Recovery Center to Rehabs.com concurred with alumni that the program was life-changing — for the family as well as the client. The reviewer praised the “structured program with lots of individual attention.”

Two Yelp reviews submitted by loved ones provided conflicting perspectives. One described a life-saving program and the other, granting just one out of five stars for Nova, complained of under-staffing and insufficient individualized care.[3]

One Nova Recovery Center staffer posted a five-star review to Yelp, describing co-workers as “experienced and compassionate professionals.”

Clients primarily self-pay for treatment, according to the Nova Recovery Center website. Financing is available through third-party health care lending agencies, and some private insurance plans contribute through out-of-network coverage.

I had been to numerous treatment centers over several years and thought this was just one more on the list. I was wrong. Nova was was nothing like my previous stays. The staff really cared about my well being. I would say without a doubt, Nova changed my life.

My daughter was a Nova client and we are so happy with the treatment and care that they provided. She had spent 30 days at another rehab and relapsed before we learned of Nova. I was hesitant at first because they are not a very old facility. We visited and my daughter said she wanted to give it a try. It was life changing for her and us (parents). She has only been out for 6 weeks but seems so much more able to tackle the life of sobriety. The staff is so caring and supportive. It's a very structured program with lots of individual attention. They work a 12 step program but also focus on health, spirituality and relationships. Truly a Mind, Body and Spirit rehab!
