Rehabs.com 360 Guide

Review by Rehabs.com Contributors

Located in Anaheim, Calif., Hope House provides residential addiction treatment services to adult residents of Orange County. The facility accepts self-referred individuals as well as court-ordered clients and those on probation and parole. Clients with co-occurring disorders are admitted on a case-by-case basis. In California, the facility is among the 39.9 percent of facilities to provide specialized programming for criminal justice clients.

All clients are pre-screened prior to admission to ensure that Hope House is the appropriate treatment option. Hope House offers 30- 60- and 90-day programs. Programming is designed to address the behaviors and emotions behind addiction and teach clients how to control their impulses and addictive behaviors.

Treatment is highly structured and divided into three phases. Clients participate in one-on-one counseling once a week and small group therapy twice a week, along with 10 hours of weekly addiction education. Education groups include Seeking Safety, anger management, relapse prevention, and life skills workshops centered around cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 22.6 percent of non-hospital treatment facilities in California offer long-term residential care.

Clients also participate in 12-step study groups and attend regular Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings, which are held on-site. Outpatient services are available to clients who have successfully graduated from the residential program. Hope House also provides clients aftercare.

According to the facility's website, the treatment team has a combined total of more than 100 years of experience working in addiction. The single individual surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Hope House three out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

Hope House can accommodate up to 56 clients at a time. During the first 15 days of treatment, residents are not allowed outside contact with friends or family, with the exception of children under 17. After a month, clients begin to receive visitation privileges.

The single alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Hope House a mixed review. The anonymous reviewer awarded the facility high ratings for the facility's treatment effectiveness, meals and nutrition, and its counseling options; neutral ratings for cleanliness and treatment of co-occurring disorders; and low ratings to the facility's exercise and leisure activities, holistic offerings, family participation, and 12-step programming.

Reviews on third-party sites were also mixed. On Google, Hope House received an average rating of 2.7 out of five stars based on 19 reviews, 14 of which were from alumni.[1] In a review representative of positive feedback, Mikey wrote: "I really loved the time here and the counseling and one one time really helped me on learning the tools to stay sober !!" Elisha, conversely, complained about the facility's methods and wrote: "Didn't learn much, did NOT help me at all."

Similar sentiments were expressed on Yelp. Of the 11 alumni who reviewed the facility, five gave four- or five-star reviews while six gave one-star reviews.[2] The two reviewers on CiteHealth gave Hope House five-star reviews in which they praised the facility's behavior modification approach.[3]

While Rehabs.com has not yet received reviews from affiliated friends or family members, loved ones on third-party sites provided mixed feedback. On Google, three loved ones gave negative reviews and two positive.[1] On Yelp, two loved ones were split.[2] In a representative review of negative feedback Suzi described on Google the rehab's strict methods as "Cruel and Unusual Punishment!" and noted: "I am appalled at the treatment you showered upon my son." Conversely, on Yelp, Elmo wrote: "I have a family member that came through here and I know it wasn't easy for him but we've seen a complete 180 in his behavior."

According to the facility's website, insurance is not accepted. Fees are offered on a sliding scale. Hope House requires that all working clients pay half of their monthly income. The one individual surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave four out of five stars for affordability.
