ABOUT INSIGHT HOUSE CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY SERVICES, INC.
Located in the central New York town of Utica, Insight House serves adults and adolescents struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health issues. Treatment programs include long-term residential, day treatment, and outpatient services. The facility also provides education and prevention programs for the local community, with approximately 600 clients and community members participating in Insight House programs every month. The facility does not offer detoxification.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Individuals may receive an initial assessment without an appointment. The process of assessment, which helps clinicians to form a customized treatment plan for each client, generally requires two visits. If detox or methadone treatment is necessary, the staff will refer clients to an outside facility.
Clients who would benefit from a structured, supervised environment during rehabilitation are referred to the residential program for a typical stay of six to nine months. According to the facility’s website, suboxone medication-assisted therapy is available, as well as psychiatric assessments as needed. Clients participate in group therapy sessions to address underlying thinking patterns contributing to addictive behavior, wellness groups, and life skills training and practice. Along with core therapeutic and educational programming, Insight House also provides G.E.D. classes referrals for vocational training.
Clients in the intensive day program meet for four hours a day, five days a week in the beginning, and with decreasing frequency as they progress in recovery. Treatment is based in individual and group counseling. A women-specific treatment track is offered with sessions addressing trauma, parenting, physical health, self-esteem, and socialization.
Clients who either are in the early stages of chemical dependency or have completed more intensive residential or day rehab and want to continue in treatment may participate in outpatient programming.
The treatment staff includes medical doctors, registered nurses, master’s level mental health and substance abuse counselors, licensed social workers, and case managers. Several interns also work at Insight House while pursuing all levels of education from associate’s to graduate degrees.
