ABOUT INTEGRITY HOUSE - NEWARK

Integrity House – Newark is a nonprofit mental health and substance misuse treatment center providing individuals and families comprehensive, integrated addictions treatment and recovery support. The facility offers both short- and long-term residential care for adults, as well as a halfway house and outpatient options. In addition to its inaugural facility in Newark, Integrity House has five other locations throughout New Jersey. Integrity House was founded in 1968.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All of Integrity House’s programs are based on the therapeutic community approach. The short-term residential program lasts 28 to 45 days and provides intensive treatment to clients with complex medical and/or mental health issues. It consists of one-on-one counseling and group therapy, offering support mostly for trauma, eating disorders, and co-occurring disorders.

The average length of stay at the long-term residential program is four to six months. Clients there receive individual and group therapy for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders in a 24-hour, supervised setting. Residents receive staff supervision and peer support while finding employment and working a program of continued recovery via local 12-step involvement.

Outpatient counseling is also offered to help clients maintain sobriety while living at home and dealing with the pressures of everyday independent living.

Additionally, Integrity House is one of 28 treatment facilities (7.5 percent) in New Jersey to offer on-site medically assisted detoxification and one of 84 facilities (22.6 percent) in New Jersey to offer on-site methadone maintenance services.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Integrity House is CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited, placing it among the 21 percent of CARF accredited treatment facilities in New Jersey. The treatment team includes licensed clinical social workers, licensed practical counselors, certified alcohol and drug counselors, and licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselors. Three individuals surveyed by Rehabs.com all gave either four- or five-star reviews of the staff's training and experience.

One alum, Earl, gave a below-average rating of two out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities and noted that “This was not a glamorous Treatment Facility, it was a TC, not designed to give the comforts of home.” However, another a staff member, L.L., gave a perfect five-star rating.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The four alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave generally positive reviews of Integrity House. L.H. gave the rehab five out of five stars for its staff support and its frequency of group therapy and meetings, though only two out of five stars for its accommodations. “I got the help I needed,” L.H. wrote.

A former client on HealthGrove echoed L.H.’s opinion about the program’s treatment effectiveness, offering it a five-star rating.[1] “This place taught me how to live again. It broke me down then built me back up...to say ‘It saved my life’ would be an understatement,” they wrote.

it worked and it worked for a lot of people....Its not fancy but a rehab doesnt have to be,your not there for pampering your there to succeed. They have a lot of x addicts that are trained and certified in Calc and a lot have gone on and received their bachelors and masters degrees..I dont think if I was dealing with people that hadnt walked the walk I would have listened or done so well. Not enough attention to alumni.

I was in the secacus house for a little over 7months back in 2006. It\'s not a comfy rehab, it\'s meant to be uncomfortable. Back then we had some really great counselars (and one not so great). But I gotta say that place gave me the tools and understanding to get clean. I relapsed as soon as I was released, but a year later I got clean and have been since. I honestly credit that to me going through this program. Again this was over 10 years ago, so I don\'t know how much it has changed.

This rehab manipulates its clientele. They belittle, admonish and punish for things real and perceived. There are no set rules and no set treatments. There are only 4 or 5 meetings of different sorts per week. The counselors have weekly quotas to meet so it does not matter to them how they treat the people seeking help. Just kick them out for whatever imagined wrongdoing.... Get the next batch in for more state money. The food is not balanced - koolaid instead of juice, nothing fresh. There are SO many inconsistencies and disparities here it is a wonder any of these poor people get help. It is an exact stereotype of \"Drink the Koolaid\"... very unsettling at best - not to mention it is in a very dangerous area. Very pathetic indeed. God help those poor souls sent there.

I got the help I needed. This was not a glamorous Treatment Facility, it was a TC, not designed to give the comforts of home. I started to attend meetings regulary, and did what the program of NA suggested.

Community/reputation are strengths of the facility.

Place is terrible in every way you can think of. It also allows addicts to have access to their phones. Recently I had a loved one who was contacted by someone who is in the program right now. This place is a joke and should be shut down.
