For over 19 years, Life Management Resources (LMR) has operated three facilities northeast of Dallas, Texas, for the treatment of adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. LMR is one of the 190 privately owned, for-profit treatment centers in Texas, which make up about 44 percent of all facilities in the state.

The LMR in Plano offers intensive outpatient (IOP), supportive outpatient (SOP), and aftercare programs for individuals ages 17 and up. There is also a 12-hour educational program for driving while intoxicated offenders -- a service offered by only 12 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities in Texas. Detoxification services are not available at this facility.

Treatment at LMR focuses on the disease model of addiction and addresses historical and environmental factors inhibiting recovery, including past trauma. Upon intake, clients work with counselors to develop an individualized treatment plan.

The IOP utilizes a mixture of co-ed and gender-specific groups, as well as weekly individual therapy. Group therapy sessions meet three times a week for the eight week program duration. Family members are encouraged to participate via weekly family therapy groups.

Clients needing additional treatment after the intensive outpatient program can enroll in the supportive outpatient program (SOP), which includes group therapy twice a week and individual therapy twice a month. Clients develop a relapse prevention plan, and participate in aftercare programming for an additional 12 months after the completion of the SOP.

Treatment modalities include the 12-steps, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing. Group therapy focuses on topics such as spirituality, relapse prevention, anger management, stress management, self-esteem building, grief and resentment, and conflict resolution. In addition, clients can participate in meditation and art therapy.

LMR is led by a doctorate level psychologist. Treatment staff at the Plano facility include licensed professional counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, and licensed chemical dependency counselors.

At the time of this writing, the sole alum polled by to date, D, posted a highly positive review. The 26-to-39-year-old male gave the facility four or five out of five stars in 15 different metrics, including cleanliness, family participation, counseling options, treatment of co-occurring disorders, and the staff's level of training and experience. "They retrain you from the ground up again basically and provide you with life management training to go back into the world again on your own two feet again without drugs or alcohol," they wrote.

LMR received favorable reviews on Google[1], where it earned an average rating of five out of five stars based on five reviews. The rehab also received three five-star reviews on Yelp[2] (one of which was unrecommended). "This place is great!" Mrs S told Yelp in a representative review. "Awesome staff and I felt like I mattered here and I did not feel like a victim but rather a normal human being."

The sole loved on surveyed by to date, a 26-to-39-year-old male, gave LMR mostly positive reviews. He awarded the facility four out of five stars for its holistic offerings, its counseling options, its cleanliness, and its administrative and discharge procedures, and described the rehab as a "very well run facility" with a "well rounded staff." When asked, on a scale from one to five, if he would recommend the facility, the reviewer gave a rating of four. His one criticism was that he noted a "confusing program structure."

LMR is in-network with most major health insurance carriers and offers similar fees for clients with out-of-network insurance. The facility also takes Medicaid, which is accepted by a little more than half of all treatment facilities in Texas. This facility offers payment plans and sliding scale fees to assist clients who cannot afford the full cost of treatment. The DWI Program costs $75.

The give you way to fill the void from the loss of addiction. In other words, they retrain you from the ground up again basically and provide you with life management training to go back into the world again on your own two feet again without drugs or alcohol. Group sessions are the best. It is simply an open floor discussion with boundaries. No glorification. No crosstalk. No demeaning. From there, everyone has a chance to speak their mind and say whatever they feel. It really made a huge impact on so many of us how we all made it in that room. One of the counselors said "One way or another you all made it here for a reason, and that we should be so proud of ourselves for being there." NONE of us could understand why she would say that since none of us thought we should be proud of ourselves, but by the time we left we did. :) I have been clean and sober for over 3 months now and plan on staying that way. I am about to enter college for the first time in my life as a 40 year old man and I feel the best I have ever felt in a very long time. I suppose they get my vote. Thank you for listening to my story. Sincerely, D
