ABOUT LIFELINE OF WHEELER CLINIC
Wheeler Clinic in a non-profit that operates multiple treatment centers across Connecticut. The centers offer a wide range of services to adults and families struggling with addiction and/or mental health disorders. The New Britain location offers outpatient services, including detoxification services, making it one of 26 (11.6 percent) of outpatient facilities in the state to offer detoxification on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility's website, Lifeline of Wheeler Clinic provides multiple outpatient programs for adults and families. Treatment in these program generally include individual, group, and family therapy. If necessary, the treatment center offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to assist individuals through the process of withdrawal utilizing Vivitrol, Narcan, and buprenorphine.
In therapy, clients address problems linked to substance abuse, depression, anxiety, anger management, domestic violence, grief and loss, and other mental health problems that may contribute to substance abuse..
Wheeler Clinic uses gender-specific, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches to treatment. The treatment team utilizes evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational enhancement approaches.
The facility also offers a specialized outpatient program for people struggling with gambling addiction, as well as a Latino Outreach Program and a program for older adults struggling with substance abuse.
The Community Response Team provides crisis intervention to the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The facility also operates a HelpLine, which provides telephone counseling services. In addition, the center's transitional case management program helps men transition back into the community after being incarcerated.
The New Britain location has an Alternative in the Community program. This program provides intervention services for those involved in the courts or probation. Services available include substance abuse intervention, skill building, job development and placement, case management, basic needs support, and vocational support.
The Wheeler Clinic also has court-referred programs such as a parenting education program, a program for domestic violence offenders, and family violence eduction program.
The center's website notes that the treatment team includes licensed addiction counselors, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychiatrists, and other treatment specialists. In Connecticut, 97.2 percent of all substance abuse treatment facilities have continuing education requirements for staff.
The one alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Lifeline of Wheeler Clinic five out of five stars for the staff's level of training and experience.
The single alum polled by Rehabs.com provided a mostly positive review. This former client awarded four out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, holistic offerings, counseling options, and effectiveness of treatment for co-occurring disorders. Agreeing that they would recommend the facility to others, this individual wrote, "Doctors were nice," and added,"It was a good experience that really helped me."
To date, of the two individuals who left Google reviews for the New Britain facility, one gave the treatment center four out of five stars and the other gave five out of five stars. "One of the best place," wrote the five-star reviewer. 
According to the facility's website, the treatment center accepts Medicaid (accepted at 82.6 percent of substance abuse centers in the state), Medicare (accepted by 53.1 percent of Connecticut treatment facilities), and private insurances. A sliding fee scale is available based on family size and income, and the center will not deny anyone services due to their inability to pay.
The sole alum reviewed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave five out of five stars when asked if treatment was worth the cost.
