According to its website, the facility offers a full range of assessments and treatment options for conditions such as anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, obesity, sleep disorder, substance abuse, and suicidal thoughts.
The inpatient program was designed for people who are acutely ill and in need of a safe, secure environment. It treats people with psychiatric symptoms or co-occurring disorders. The center utilizes the bio-psycho-social model, which analyzes biological, psychological, and social factors.
Lifespan Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services also offers outpatient care. The programs book appointments and accept walk-in clients at various Lifespan Ambulatory Care Centers in the area.
The facility's website notes that the Rhode Island Hospital psychiatry program has more than 95 full-time doctoral level psychiatrists and psychologists on staff. Other members of the treatment team include social workers and clinical nurse specialists. An alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the staff's level of training and experience four out of five stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
An alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided positive opinions about Rhode Island Hospital's Lifespan Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services. They gave the facility consistent four out of five stars for the major categories of the survey – treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition – and carried the four-star rating through to numerous other metrics, including administrative/discharge policies, affordability, cleanliness, family participation, level of staff experience and training, treatment of co-occurring disorders, and would recommend the facility. However, the reviewer gave lower ratings to several other metrics, including three stars for counseling options and two stars for both exercise and leisure opportunities and holistic offerings. The former client described treatment at the facility to Rehabs.com as: "Helpful, covered by insurance, educational, beneficial I found it useful and friendly, and helpful."
On secondary review site Yelp, Rhode Island Hospital received mixed feedback to date: 2.5 stars based on 27 reviews. Note: these ratings pertain to the medical center as a whole – and notably its Emergency Room services – rather than its Lifespan Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services exclusively. Comments by reviewers (alumni, loved ones) ranged from positive to negative, about helpful, compassionate staff, clean conditions, and excellent care to incompetent, unhelpful staff, long wait times, dirty and unsavory conditions, and lack of communication. Repeated references were made to the parking situation, described as expensive, confusing, and “nightmarish.”
WHAT STAFF SAY
Staff who submitted feedback to secondary review sites offered mixed opinions about working at Rhode Island Hospital. Here again, reviews covered the center as a whole rather than Lifespan Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services specifically. Ratings were: 3.1 out of five stars based on 59 reviews on Glassdoor, and four stars based on 203 reviews on Indeed. Many referenced low salary among negative remarks, which included long hours and not enough life/work balance.
