ABOUT LIFESTREAM BEHAVIORAL CENTER – HOPE AND RECOVERY CENTER

Since its founding as a nonprofit in 1971, LifeStream has grown into a comprehensive, 21-facility behavioral health and social services organization. Located in the small city of Leesburg, Fla., LifeStream’s Hope and Recovery Center offers residential treatment for adults, as well as outpatient services for adults and adolescents. A separate facility in Leesburg provides detoxification services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Adult Choice is a residential program that specializes in treating adults struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. In this program, clients participate in 10 hours of counseling per week, along with educational groups and recreational activities.

The facility also houses the Road to Home program, which offers short-term residential treatment to adults with severe mental illness, and OASIS, a residential program for seniors. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 16.9 percent of rehabs in Florida offer a short-term residential program. The same survey indicates that 53.6 percent of rehabs in the state offer a program specifically tailored to clients with co-occurring disorders, while 23.4 percent offer one tailored to seniors.

Additionally, there are various outpatient options at the Hope and Recovery Center. A stage-based program called the Turnabout program offers individual and family counseling for adolescents. Adolescent-specific programming is available at 20.2 percent of rehabs in Florida, according to a 2017 SAMHSA survey.

The facility’s Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities (TASC) program offers preventative education and counseling to minor offenders in the justice system. Another program, Crossroads II, provides outpatient family, group, and individual therapy. The facility also offers adult and child case management services.

The treatment team includes psychiatrists, nurses, and advanced registered nurse practitioners, as well as psychologists, psychiatric technicians, social workers, case managers, and counselors. To date, the six individuals surveyed by Rehabs.com on the matter gave high marks for the facility's staff.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The five alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave mostly positive reviews. Most categories evaluated by the alumni, including the staff, family participation, and the facility's cleanliness, received exclusively four- or five-star reviews. R.V.B. wrote in a representative review: “The program helped me to examine what I was doing to my body as well as my mental disabilities.” The alumni gave abundant praise to the staff in particular: "Counselors are compassionate...Good Psychiatrist as well," wrote one anonymous alum in a representative review.

In stark contrast, secondary sources revealed general disapproval for Lifestream as a whole. On Google, 74 individuals gave the treatment provider an average rating of 1.7 out of five stars [1]. Common criticisms included the facility's staff, a lack of organization, and treatment efficacy. "Lack of communication, thorough treatment, and professionalism...," Jon, a representative reviewer, wrote. Another alum, Katrina, added: "This is a Baker Act facility. They do not care about the patient’s wellbeing at all."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The three loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com gave mixed feedback. One loved one, T.F., gave a highly negative review and rated nearly all categories evaluated (including the experience of the staff and the facility's holistic offerings) just one or two stars out of five.

The other two loved ones gave mostly higher marks, but still had some measured criticism. “Overall a positive experience but at times felt unwelcomed when visiting loved one. Staff was either hot or cold, never knew what you were going to get,” one anonymous loved one wrote in a representative review.

WHAT STAFF SAY

The sole staff member surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave four out of five stars for counseling options and family participation, but indicated that holistic offerings were lacking and wrote that “food can improve.”
