Holistic Therapy

Facilities that offer “holistic therapy” see and treat patients in the context of their entire lives and health status. They treat the “whole person,” not just the addiction.

Equine Therapy

A form of animal therapy, equine therapy involves visiting, working with and sometimes riding horses as a way to create a metaphoric relationship that leads to life-altering insights.

Located in the community of St. George in southern Utah, along the Arizona border, Lion’s Gate Recovery provides one of the 70 (29.8 percent) residential inpatient treatment programs in the state for individuals struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. The program is faith-based and lasts 30, 60, or 90 days.

If necessary, the facility also provides medically-monitored detoxification to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms, offered at only 25 (10.6 percent) substance abuse treatment centers in Utah.

Upon admission, clients undergo an initial assessment to guide clinicians in developing and implementing an individualized treatment plan. Lion’s Gate Recovery blends evidence-based treatment approaches, holistic methods, and adventure therapies to promote recovery. The facility also provides pharmacogenetic testing, which helps to determine if certain medications may be appropriate. The facilities offers both medication-assisted treatment to help cravings and medication management to address symptoms of psychiatric disorders.

During residential treatment, clients participate in group, individual, and family/couples counseling sessions. Therapy sessions are designed to help clients regulate emotions and address the links between destructive thinking patterns and addictive behaviors. Clients also attend psycho-educational classes and attend motivational presentations. To involve loved ones in treatment, the facility provides Family Days for counseling sessions and educational seminars.

In addition to core programming, Lion’s Gate Recovery incorporates equine therapy and adventure-based treatments into treatment, including an outdoor ropes course. According to the facility’s website, these alternative therapies are designed to promote teamwork, communication, and responsibility. Residents may also participate in exercise programs and nutritional workshops to promote physical health and wellness.

The facility utilizes a brain-mapping method (SPECT Scans) to identify the effects of substance abuse on an individual’s brain. To treat brain areas that may have been affected, the facility provides clients with pharmaceutical-grade supplements and vitamins proven to promote brain function and regeneration.

Biosound therapy is also offered, which utilizes soothing colors, music therapy, sound frequencies, guided imagery, and biofeedback to treat a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, and insomnia. As a faith-based program, clients participate in worship services, Bible studies, and devotionals. Upon discharge from the program, clinicians may assist individuals to form a comprehensive aftercare plan to support lasting recovery.

Alpine Recovery Lodge employs a multidisciplinary staff comprised of medical specialists, licensed substance abuse counselors, case managers, and a support team. In Utah, 98.8 percent of all substance abuse treatment facilities have continuing education requirements for staff.

Lion’s Gate Recovery provides an upscale residential facility with a comfortable, homelike environment. Clients reside in spacious, shared bedrooms, and the facility features well-furnished communal areas, a fitness and game room, outdoor patios, and green space for leisure and recreation.

While has yet to receive alumni feedback to date, secondary sources revealed generally positive opinions of the facility. On Google, six individuals gave the facility the high average rating of 4.5 out of five stars.[1] Positive opinions tended to cite the "loving" staff and the familial community as strengths of the facility. “At Lion's Gate you become family. They truly care about you as a person and your recovery," K.B., a representative reviewer, wrote. Alum T.M. noted that she is not LDS, but was still expected to attend church meetings. Despite this initial miscommunication, she commented upon her positive experience and results, and remarked, "ultimately happy I chose to seek help through Lions Gate."

The sole loved one polled by at the time of the writing shared the same positive opinions as the alumni. K.A., a sibling of a client, offered a five-star rating for the facility’s overall treatment effectiveness. “Best rehab in town,” K.A. wrote, adding, “Did wonders for my bro.”

I had been trying to find a treatment center for weeks. I wasn't having very good luck. Everyone kept putting me off. I called Lionsgate and I was in within a couple days. Quick and painless. The facility is awesome. Tons of room, huge yard with a stream. Very serene. I ate like a king. Put back on some of the much needed weight I had lost in my addiction. The counselors and techs were amazing! Very personable and understanding. By no means push overs or niavee. Very effective. I loved the gym time, jujitsu, yoga, and outdoor recreational activities. I love this place. It saved my life. I have been in addiction for 30 years in and out of prison. I came into this program spiritually dead, emotionally bankrupt and just generally lost. I now have a new perspective on life, I have custody of my son, good healthy friends and a solid foundation for which to build the rest of my life on and it all began here. I would highly recommend anyone to Lionsgate.

We had a huge set back, very frustrated and disappointing Our daughter was removed off her medication, not weened off She had been on the medication 7 months in jail to medically stabalize her for treatment To help her with mental illness, needless to say she suffered mentally and physically I would not recommend liongste to those needing mental heath She is now being treated by a qualified mental health and substance abuse Treatment center to stabalize her again. Substance abuse and mental illness Often need to be addressed and medication is necessary We can’t 12 step or pray that mental illness goes away.

Terrible program! Not backed by any science. Every day in group was just a spiritual (LDS) based lecture on how if we find god we will no longer drink or use substances. There is not much dialog or actual processing like you might find in other more advanced programs. It's mostly read this pamphlet come to the lecture/group and If you're lucky watch some YouTube video about god or Jesus put on by one of the techs.... but that was only on the weekends. Maybe it will be good for you if you are a bible thumper or are staunchly LDS

I couldn’t possibly put in to words what lions gate program has done for my son in such a short time, their open arms to the patient at their lowest possible is so amazing and so appreciated by me as a mother who thought my son could not be helped . Every one is great there , but the person who I met first while checking our options if we had any opened up a door to a bright place called lions gate recovery program. He has been a savior of my son in too many different way , I will always be grateful for angels like him on earth . Thank you for all the staff and their hard work.
