Located in Marion, Ohio, which is about 50 miles north of Columbus, the Marion Area Counseling Center (MACC) offers residential and outpatient-baed treatment services for drug and alcohol abuse through its five Marion-based locations. The treatment provider does not offer detoxification services.


The treatment process at the Marion Area Counseling Center begins with an interview with an intake specialist. All potential clients first speak with an intake support specialist, who will arrange for an in-person assessment to determine the appropriate treatment plan and appropriate level of care.

The Foundations Recovery Center, which is a part of MACC, offers residential treatment for adult men and women. The multi-phased program provides addiction education, as well as group and individual counseling. Clients are also introduced to self-help meetings, such as 12-Step, along with employment training. Somewhat unique to the facility, vocational training is provided at 39% of U.S. facilities.

The facility’s outpatient services include crisis intervention, a 24-hour crisis call center, individual counseling, family therapy, a behavioral health group, and community support facilitation. MACC offers a day treatment program through its MACC West facility and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) through its CrossRoads Recovery Center.

The Marion Area Counseling Center also offers a victim assistance program and an employee assistance program. Specialized programs for families include the intensive family preservation program that lasts six to 10 hours per week for a minimum of 90 days. During this program, family members undergo extensive counseling in promote family preservation.


MACC's treatment team includes a licensed independent social worker and certified chemical dependency counselors. The one alum surveyed by to date gave the facility five out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience, and described the staff as "knowledgeable and very caring." The facility is also a part of the 28% of facilities accredited by CARF.


The Foundations Recovery Center has 15 beds and is staffed 24/7. The one alum polled by at the time of this writing gave the facility four out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities, as well as five stars for the facility's cleanliness and upkeep.


The one alum surveyed by to date gave MACC positive feedback, awarding the facility mostly four out of five stars or higher across all evaluated metrics, including counseling options, cleanliness, exercise and leisure activities, holistic offerings, administrative and discharge procedures, and treatment of co-occurring disorders. "The process takes time, but the staff can get you to where you want to be," the alum wrote.

On Google, MACC received an average rating of 3.4 out of five stars from eight reviewers. [1] One alum provided negative feedback about long wait times, while another was critical of the nursing staff. However, a satisfied anonymous reviewer felt the staff was "extremely friendly and accommodating.”


On Indeed, Marion Area Counseling Center earned an average of 3.6 out of five stars from five reviews to date.[2] Two reviewers felt the facility offered a “Great learning experience,” though one former employee indicated that the facility wasn’t well maintained.


According to HealthGrove, the Center accepts military insurance, state insurance other than Medicaid, Access to Recovery Vouchers, and accepts fees on a sliding scale. The acceptance of Access to Recovery Vouchers is limited to 56 facilities in the state. The one alum polled by to date gave MACC five out of five stars for its affordability.

    Staff is knowledgeable and very caring. Nothing from what I experienced. The process takes time, but the staff can get you to where you want to be.
