Located in Townson, Md., about 10 miles north of Baltimore, the Maryland Addiction Recovery Center (MARC) offers residential treatment, an intensive outpatient program, and aftercare services for adults struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. In addition, an outpatient program for adolescents is available, and the center provides medication-assisted and ambulatory (outpatient-based) detoxification, or can refer clients to a nearby inpatient detox facility if necessary.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Before beginning treatment, clients participate in an initial medical and psychiatric assessment to help clinicians form an individualized treatment plan and identify any co-occurring mental health concerns.
MARC’s Community Residential Treatment Program blends evidence-based therapies with an introduction to 12-step principles and practices. During residential treatment, clients participate in a rigorous schedule of individual, group, and family counseling sessions. These counselor-led sessions focus on a range of issues such as trauma, gender-specific issues, spirituality, and family dynamics. Individuals with a dual diagnosis also receive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management.
To promote self-sufficiency upon discharge, MARC provides vocational and employment training, such as identifying job opportunities, creating resumes, and preparing for job interviews. Case managers may also help clients to enroll or re-enroll in school.
Once a client is discharged from residential care, they may be encouraged to utilize MARC’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) as a “step-down” aftercare service. IOP begins with five sessions and at least one individual counseling session per week. The three-hour sessions are held in the mornings (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and evenings (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) on weekdays to accommodate clients’ schedules. As the client progresses, he/she gradually attends outpatient sessions less frequently.
