McIntyre Center, located in Parma Heights, Ohio, offers a variety of outpatient treatment options to adolescents and adults struggling with substance abuse. The facility also offers a community intervention programs. The programs are certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and operates two locations in Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties.

Founded in 1985, the family-owned McIntyre Center has helped thousands of clients achieve recovery from substance abuse and chemical dependency.

Prior to admission for outpatient treatment, clients receive an in-depth assessment in the form of an interview regarding their substance use history. The assessment allows the facility’s staff to determine the most accurate diagnosis and recommendations for treatment. Clients may be asked to complete a urine drug screen test.

The facility’s treatment program takes an individualized approach to developing recovery plans as they recognize that recovery is a personal journey and each client’s needs are unique. The McIntyre Center also incorporates 12-Steps recovery principles and support groups. Both intensive and non-intensive treatment tracks are available with non-intensive treatment lasting for six weeks and intensive treatment lasting for eight weeks. An opiate/heroin specific intensive program is available.

Throughout treatment, clients receive individual and family counseling and also take part in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) support groups. Topics addressed may include disease education, including topics like: the cycle of addiction and information on physical effects of substance abuse, denial and grief, change, self-understanding, and relapse prevention. Clients may be asked to complete urine drug screens during the program as necessary. Additional services include crisis intervention and case management. Aftercare is available for those who successfully complete the treatment program. A specific treatment track is available for adolescents in need of treatment and that program follows a similar structure as the adult program.

Other substance abuse services presented by the McIntyre Center focus on community prevention such as alcohol and drug education programs and a six hour Diversion Program which includes education, group, and individual counseling. The facility’s Driver Intervention Program is a 72-hour overnight program for individuals who have been arrested while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or substances.

Training for employees and supervisors at community business is offered through the facility’s Drug Free Safety Program according to the requirements of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. Additionally, employers can request the services of the facility’s Substance Abuse Profession program for an employee who has violated a Department of Transportation Regulation.

There is little information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff. The second-generation owners of the facility hold a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in engineering. The McIntyre Center’s website also states, “Our staff is fully licensed and credentialed by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, LICD, LICDC, RN, LICC, Masters Degree.”

At time of writing, has not received any reviews from alumni, friends and family, or staff regarding the McIntyre Center.

On the facility’s Citehealth page, there is an overall rating of three out of five stars based on 21 total reviews.[1] The reviews were very polarized with some clients writing that the facility saved their life while others felt that they were taken advantage of by the McIntyre Center. One negative review, left by an anonymous client who gave one star, wrote “The "professionals" there will force you to use their terrible treatment options. They do not assess and they are not able to offer any clinical explanation on why they reach their conclusions.”

However, an anonymous family member of a client did not agree with that viewpoint. She gave five stars and wrote, “Don't know where the 1 star reviews are coming from… My 18 year old son needed aftercare and we took him there. We didn't have insurance that would cover the treatment, but it was affordable. He definitely needed the help and spoke highly of the program.”

On the facility’s Google page, the reviews are also polarized with an overall rating of 2.3 out of five stars based on six total reviews.[2] Four out of the six reviewers gave only one star and commented that they disliked the staff and did not feel the staff were qualified. They also felt that they were taken advantage of by the McIntyre Center. However, one anonymous reviewer that gave five stars felt differently. This reviewer attended the Driver Intervention Program and wrote, “Good program, I really did learn lots of important things why not to drink and drive ever again...I highly recommend McIntyre Driving intervention program to all.”

On the facility’s Facebook page, which it can manage, there a single rating of five out of five from one review.[3] J.A., an alum of the Driver Intervention Program indicated that she had a very positive experience. She wrote, in part, “ I attended their three day DIP class court ordered… It's nerve wracking to walk into Thursday night but by Saturday, everyone is comfortable, talking and sharing stories etc. The meals are all right and the staff is amazing, friendly and will help you with just about anything you need.”

The cost of treatment at the facility is not published. The McIntyre Center’s website states that their services are offered “at a reasonable cost” and notes that they are not a publicly funded agency.
