Located in Springfield, Ill., just minutes north of the city’s downtown, Memorial Behavioral Health (MBH) offers counseling services for adult men and women ages 18 and older who are struggling with behavioral health and substance use (SUD) disorders. As an outpatient center, Memorial Behavioral Health opens its doors, Monday through Friday, at 7 a.m., and closes at 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, at 5 p.m. on Thursday, and at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Memorial Behavioral Health also operates a residential crisis center for adults in need of immediate intervention and stabilization, making it just one of 13 (2.1 percent) facilities statewide that provide hospital-based inpatient care.

Clients who come to Memorial Behavioral Health for counseling services are typically referred here by their primary care physician. Sessions are ongoing and scheduled, however, the center does offer same-day, walk-in services during regular business hours. A core service here, the substance use program helps adults develop healthy attitudes and behaviors using an assessment, education, and counseling services.

Along with its services to treat substance use, MBH has simultaneous capacity to diagnose and treat conditions of behavioral, emotional, and mental health such as depression and postpartum depression, anxiety, and relationship hardships. To address these issues, licensed clinicians provide one-on-one counseling (for both children and adults), groups, and family therapy. MBH is also just one of 382 (60.3 percent) facilities in the state to offer couples counseling.

Memorial Behavioral Health also gears some of its services towards the bariatric population as well as for pregnant and postpartum women and their infants. While further details about these programs are no available on Memorial Behavioral Health's website, it is among the only 13 percent of Illinois facilities with services for pregnant and postpartum women.

Memorial Behavioral Health employs a team of 10 licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) and one certified drug and alcohol counselor.

While has not yet received any feedback from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff, Memorial Behavioral Health does enjoy a reputable standing across secondary sources.

On Facebook, for example, where the facility can manage its reviews, Memorial Behavioral Health has an organization-wide average rating of five out of five stars from eight individuals to date, one of whom, a staffer, wrote: “The staffs here are very happy to work with us and i love seeing everybodys happy bright smiles every day when we come in. We love being a family here.”[1]

According to its website, Memorial Behavioral Health “only accepts patients who are covered by private insurance” or the center’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP), making it one of just 415 (65.6 percent) facilities statewide that accept private health insurance. MBH also receives support from tax-deductible donations, made possible via a link on the center’s website.
