Located in Hollywood, Fla., Memorial Regional Hospital runs a 51-bed, short-term inpatient unit for adults in need of immediate, psychiatric attention. The hospital also has a psychiatric emergency department that’s open 24/7.

Inpatient treatment at Memorial Regional Hospital is short-term. Despite their brief time spent here - the hospital’s webpage maintains that a typical stay averages less than a week - patients are supported with a full range of services including psychiatric evaluations, biopsychosocial and lethality assessments, mental health exams, treatment for substance abuse, and discharge planning.

Loved one are also encouraged to participate. There are education groups for parents, family therapy sessions, and weekday and weekend visiting hours.

Patients meet with a psychiatrist to determine their length of stay. Further details on inpatient staff are not provided.

There is currently no information provided by the hospital on the living arrangements and related offerings of its 51-bed inpatient unit. Of the two survey respondents to date, both found the unit clean and well-maintained but only one indicated that accommodations met their expectations.

Feedback provided by two alumni was positive, with some complaints. Awarding the hospital three stars for the program’s treatment effectiveness and four or more stars for its family participation and staff’s level of training and experience, the pair of former clients described the program as “Well organized” and fully comprehensive in supporting their recovery.

Alumni did complain, however, that group counseling wasn’t enough (“some of us need one on one help”), that there was an overreliance on the 12 steps, and that the hospital showed favoritism. “Patients were treated differently however, based on their financial ability to pay, so negotiate specifics up front regarding number of therapy sessions and doctor visits, outside activities, conveniences, etc.,” one advised others.

Memorial Healthcare System participates with an extensive list of health insurance plans like Aetna, CIGNA, Humana, and more.

Both survey respondents, in addition, found treatment cost-worthy.

Well organized program with many daily classes and seminars in addition to 12 step meetings and individual therapy and doctor sessions. Doctor wasn't available enough; only came 2x per week. Too much reliance on 12 step program adherence - no options for non-religious/atheist patients. The SHARE program was great and well run. The Aftercare program provided a lot of support in addition to the 12 step classes. Patients were treated differently however, based on their financial ability to pay, so negotiate specifics up front regarding number of therapy sessions and doctor visits, outside activities, conveniences, etc.

Learning tools to stay sober Group counselling is not for everyone, some of us need one on one help. This was the only facility that my insurance covered. I feel I would have benefited from a in-patient program. This was what I was dealt and I was the one to make it work. Proud to say I am 3 1/2 yrs sober! YEA ME!!!
