Meridian Health Services is a publicly funded behavioral health organization that provides medical, psychiatric, and behavioral health services, as well as foster care services, skills training, and supportive independent living for adults across more than two dozen facilities in Indiana. Established more than 35 years ago, Meridian Health Services holds both accreditation with the Joint Commission and certification with the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addictions.

One of 179 (58.7 percent) nonprofit facilities in the state of Indiana, Meridian Health Services’ in Muncie is home to the organization’s main office and Suzanne Gresham Center, offering outpatient and home-based services for drug-addicted mothers and their affected newborn babies as well as for children and teens struggling with emotional and behavioral problems.

Meridian Health Services considers itself a “progressive” healthcare organization. Its Muncie-based Suzanne Gresham Center uses uses a Systems of Care model, which involves careful coordination and support between schools, juvenile and state agencies and other sources to help children and their families thrive in the face of their particular challenges. By and large, treatment is designed to keep families together, or reunite them, though the organization also provides foster care placements where necessary.

The Suzanne Gresham Center provides counseling services on an outpatient basis for individuals, groups, and entire families in need. In some cases, the center will meet and support children in their school and home environments.

Another program option is the Community Alternative to Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (CA-PRTF). Here, children, teens, and young adults between the ages of six and 20 receive intensive support for problematic substance use, also as an attempt to avoid residential treatment. There’s another intensive outpatient program (IOP) designed eclusively for teens,

Amongst its initiatives for families and children in need of behavioral health support, the Suzanne Gresham Center has a dedicated outpatient program for mothers struggling with substance use and their affected babies. The Maternal Treatment Program strives to foster positive, long-term behavioral lifestyle changes for mothers in crisis.

Meridian Health employs a large team of medical doctors and psychiatrists as well as licensed clinical social workers (LCSW), mental health and addictions counselors, and marriage and family therapists.
