Meridian Health Services Philosophy
Meridian Health Services provides evidence-based treatment to individuals struggling with addiction in order to provide the highest quality, most effective care available. Specializing in co-occurring psychiatric and addiction services, Meridian Health aims to address each individual’s unique behavioral condition and work with clients to create positive solutions for enduring recovery.
Areas of Specialization
Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family members to understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.
Dual Diagnosis/ Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

ABOUT MERIDIAN HEALTH SERVICES
Located 35 miles northwest of Detroit in Waterford Township, Mich., Meridian Health Services is a private addiction treatment center offering medically-monitored detox, residential, and outpatient, and intensive outpatient (IOP) programming for adults seeking treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment at Meridian Health Services begins with an assessment by a counselor. Clients meet with a counselor to identify their individual treatment needs. This plan is used to assign clients to the appropriate services.
Meridian Health Services follows the disease model of addiction. Treatment focuses on addressing clients’ needs in a holistic way that treats the mind, body, and spirit. Treatment consists of evidence-based cognitive therapies and individualized treatment plans. All treatment is gender-specific, and focuses on finding the underlying behaviors that trigger addiction.
Clients participate in daily group therapy sessions. They attend individual and group counseling and educational lectures, as well as optional activities including 12-step meetings, exercise, art, and recreational and vocational workshops. There’s also time each day for reflection and relaxation.
Family involvement in treatment is encouraged. Clients can have their families participate in group therapy on a weekly basis. They can also participate in select therapy activities to rebuild the family connections that clients need after treatment.
The treatment team at Meridian Health Services includes an M.D. who is board certified in addiction medicine, a registered nurse, master-level counselors, licensed therapists, social workers, and a certified addiction counselor. The facility is CARF accredited, as well as state licensed for specific services.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The facilities at Meridian Health Services include rooms for residential clients. Clients share gender-separate rooms. Detox is offered from a separate, medically monitored unit with laundry facilities and a lounge with a flat-screen TV. The residential unit offers the same amenities, plus a full kitchen and a community dining area. Smoking is permitted in designated areas.
