MERIT Resource Services Philosophy

Merit Resource Services provides outpatient drug and alcohol treatment and education services to adults, adolescents and children in the lower Yakima Valley of Washington State. Merit offers essential treatment programs to rural and underserved populations in an effort to ensure that each person suffering from addiction has an opportunity to survive and thrive. Merit offers both intensive inpatient and outpatient services, and works to meet the needs of each individual.

Areas of Specialization

  • Out Patient
Outpatient treatment describes all addiction treatment that is not residential. Patients live at home while undergoing rehab.

  • Intensive Out Patient (IOP)
Patients who undergo intensive outpatient treatment continue to live at home and sometimes go to school or work while participating in a highly structured treatment protocol that is focused on ending substance abuse. Programs vary in terms of how much treatment patients receive, how often and for how long. Some facilities design individualized intensive outpatient treatment programs.

Established in 1979 as the first outpatient drug and alcohol treatment provider in the Lower Yakima Valley, MERIT Resource Services now runs six office locations throughout central Washington. The state-certified and nationally-accredited nonprofit offers outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment for drug and alcohol abuse and co-occurring disorders as well as referrals and assessments for children, teens, and adults. Services are available in Spanish at all six locations. Detox is not available.

Outpatient treatment at MERIT Resource Services has a client-centered and individualized approach. Taking place in either group or private therapy settings, treatment makes use of evidence-based approaches like Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT),12-step facilitation, and the Matrix Model of treatment.

In Washington, only 255 (64.4 percent) of Washington facilities use the 12-step program in their treatment plans. Likewise, there are only 164 (41.4 percent) facilities in Washington that use the Matrix Model.

Family involvement is a critical part of treatment. It also has a cannabis treatment program for youth. Clients needing legal services or that have legal treatment requirements can receive help from MERIT, as it works with most area therapy courts.

MERIT Resource Services employs a large team of chemical dependency professionals (CDPs), intervention specialists, trainees, and interns. It is one of 70 (17.7 percent) of Washington facilities that are accredited by CARF.

REVIEWS has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff. However, on Indeed, MERIT has an average rating of four out of five stars based on four reviews. Staffers praised overall treatment and coworkers.[1]

Treatment is offered to everyone, making MERIT one of 152 (38.4 percent) of Washington facilities that offer services to clients that cannot pay. There are discounted rates available for critical services based on family income and size.
