The not-for-profit Methodist Hospitals group operates three hospitals — two in Gary and one in Merrillville, Ind. — as well as numerous physician clinics and other facilities in northwestern Indiana.

The Gary Northlake Campus, located at the address above, offers outpatient counseling services for adults and adolescents who are struggling with a range of mental and behavioral health disorders, including substance use disorder.

Services are also available at the Southlake Hospital Campus in Merrillville.

In addition to treating problematic substance use, the behavioral health department can offer relief from disorders and conditions including depression, anxiety, grief, chronic mental illness, rage, and stress.

Therapy is offered in individual, group, couples', and family settings. Methodist Hospital does not provide extensive information about its treatment methodologies at the time of this writing, though the facility's website indicates that the center uses case management and drug counseling alongside evidence-based treatments such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and that there's a focus on health and wellness and work/life balance. There are also dedicated services for veterans.

New clients usually see a therapist within three days of registering and being assessed. The center is open 8 p.m. through 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and some evening sessions are available, too.

Methodist Hospital employs a team of licensed counselors, who provide services in the outpatient behavioral health department. The inpatient department also provides a board-certified psychiatrist. The single individual polled by to date gave the behavioral health department three out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY has not yet received any reviews directly from alumni of the outpatient behavioral health department, and secondary sites yielded mixed feedback about this location of Methodist Hospital as a whole. The hospital had a 2.6-star average rating based on 42 reviews on Google, and two stars based on four reviews on Yelp.[1] [2] The negative reviewers repeatedly cited long wait times and poor treatment from hospital staff. "Poor everything from the time you walk in the door," M.T. wrote in a representative review on Google; "By far the WORST hospital I been to! The wait times are ridiculous," E.R. added on the same site. However, a handful of reviewers spoke highly of the facility: "They were wonderful. The nurses were amazing kind and helpful, there was never anything that they didn't explain or offer help with," L.R. wrote on Yelp, in a review that referred specifically to the psych department.

"They treated my sister well,um program did work for her&she had a great experience overall," wrote the single loved one polled by to date, though they also noted that there were "[not] many options for treatment." They gave the facility three stars for its treatment effectiveness and its holistic offerings, and four stars in most of the remaining treatment metrics, including its family participation, counseling options, and ability to treat co-occurring disorders.

Methodist Hospitals accept Medicaid, Medicare, TriCare, and most private insurances as well as self-pay. Financial assistance is available to those with limited resources. The single individual polled by to date gave the center four out of five stars for its affordability.
