ABOUT MONARCH - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES
Monarch is a nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the emotional, mental, intellectual, and developmental needs of thousands of individuals and families in Albemarle, N.C., about an hour east of Charlotte. One of just 184 (39.0 percent of) nonprofits in the state of North Carolina, Monarch offers a full range of walk-in, outpatient, and in-home psychiatric services for both adults and children.
In Albemarle, Monarch’s administrative office, the nonprofit is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Short-term medical detoxification and crisis services are provided at other locations throughout the established agency.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Guided by the belief “in providing the help people need when they request it,” Monarch facilitates daily walk-in appointments through its Open Access model of care, Monday through Friday. Programming here is unique insofar that it enables individuals to be seen by a professional therapist for an assessment, develop a treatment plan, and receive prescription medication, if necessary, all on the same day.
The nonprofit has peer support specialists (PSS) who take a hands-on, mentor-like approach in assisting men and women learn how to manage and create their own path into mental health or substance use (SUD) recovery. These specialists must have at least one year without crisis, relapse, or inpatient care before they begin helping others in recovery; many have learnt to overcome similar challenges in their own lives.
Monarch also works with children and teens with complex family needs that can be addressed more effectively at-home than in a traditional outpatient setting. Available at two forms of intensity, at-home services are designed to help those between the ages of three and 21 develop adequate problem-solving skills and connect with other support resources in an effort to prevent inpatient care.
Monarch employs a team of state-certified peer support specialists, psychiatrists, and professional counselors and therapists. Per the agency’s webpage, “staff are available around the clock” to work with youth and families in need.
