ABOUT MONTANA CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY CENTER IN BUTTE, MT
The Montana Chemical Dependency Center (MCDC) of Butte, Mont., provides residential and detoxification treatment services for men and women struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
Founded in 1993, MCDC moved into their current facility in 2014. Today, it’s one of 20 (28.6 percent) of centers in the state with a residential program and one of four (5.7 percent) with detoxification services. MCDC does not accept walk-ins.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Clients must be referred by a licensed addiction counselor (LAC) to be eligible for treatment. Clients needing detox may receive medication under medical supervision. Offering treatment stays of up to 35 days or more, the center is one of just 10 (14.3 percent) of Montana facilities with long-term care options.
Treatment is client-centered and outcome-informed. Beginning with an individualized plan, clients take part in a curriculum of individual and group therapy, relapse prevention planning and education, transition planning, 12-step meetings, spiritual opportunities, and infectious disease surveillance.
A typical day at MCDC begins with breakfast and a medical screening followed by group therapy, nurse education, fitness education, and lunch. After lunch, clients have time to complete chores and undergo another medical screening, then group therapy, independent study time, dinner, 12-step meetings, guided imagery, and quiet time before bed.
The treatment team at MCDC includes medical doctors, registered nurses, treatment technicians, addiction counselors, mental health therapists, care managers, and administrative staff.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
MCDC operates on a three-building campus and runs gender-specific, 16-bed homes for men and women. There’s also a 16-bed unit for detoxification.
MCDC features an exercise room, basketball and volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits. The facility forbids clients usage of cell phones and products containing either tobacco or caffeine.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The four alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date gave mixed but generally positive feedback on their experience at MCDC. While three shared three out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, the fourth gave five of five stars in this area.
When asked on the facility’s strengths, one alum told of a staff who “believe in what they are doing and want to help you learn to help yourself.” Another alum referred to their stay as the “best month and a half of my life.” A third felt that “Most of the people there are court ordered” and “don't want to be there and dont want to do better,” but felt that treatment here was indeed effective for those who are serious about their recovery. “If you want to get sober this is a good place to do it,” they told Rehabs.com.
Feedback was more negative on Google, where MCDC has an overall rating of 2.8 out of five stars from eight individuals as of this writing. While one five-star reviewer shared details of her success story, others referred to the center as a “joke, found its staff to be “rude and unhelpful,” and complained of “restrictions on communications, visits, personal possessions, etc.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date had conflicting, polarizing feedback on MCDC. The only area where loved ones agreed was on the affordability of treatment: one noted that MCDC services are “covered by most insurances” while another claimed that “It is free to those with no resources.”
Two loved ones found the facility's cleanliness and counseling options adequate, sharing four and five out of five stars in these areas. These reviewers also appreciated the staff and the regular 12-step meetings that MCDC facilitated. The third, by contrast, called the program a "waste of time," adding: “The success rate is very low."
The cost of treatment at MCDC is approximately $400 per day, but fees are calculated based on each client’s ability to pay.
MCDC accepts private insurance and is one of just 28 (40 percent) of facilities statewide that participates with Medicare. Clients are encouraged to contact the facility directly for more information regarding the costs of treatment.
